Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Indianapolis Colts (10/16/2022): Betting Odds, Prediction, Depth Chart
Contents
Entering week six of the NFL season, we get an AFC South rematch from an earlier beatdown this season between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts. The earlier week 2 was completely dominated by Jacksonville as they went on to win 24-0 and the Colts simply could find no answers offensively or defensively. That game was played in Jacksonville, where the Colts have not been able to win since 2014. The tides turn however, as this game is being played in Indianapolis where the Colts have been able to usually win against the Jags on their home turf.
Since their week two game, the Jaguars have gone 1-2 in their next three. They dominated the Chargers 38-10 and many thought the Jaguars were on the rise for a much improved season. The following two games however resulted in losses and QB Trevor Lawrence who looked great in the first three games struggled with turnovers. The Colts have gone 2-1 in their next three winning squeaker games against the Chiefs and Broncos but losing a tough one to the Titans. The defense has looked great but the offense continues to struggle. Now both teams have two wins and desperately need a third to make their argument for the division title. Let’s break into this game’s picks and predictions.
Jacksonville Jaguars Vs. Indianapolis Colts Betting Odds
Despite dominating their last two games against the Colts, the Jaguars are underdogs in this matchup in Indianapolis. The Colts are narrow moneyline favorites at -135 odds. This makes sense as I’ve said while the Jaguars have had the Colts number in Jacksonville, the Colts have had the Jags in Indy. The Jaguars are also still a young and rebuilding team while the Colts were expected to be a win now and have much higher season expectations. That doesn’t mean much if QB Matt Ryan and the offensive line can’t get anything going. The spread line -2.5 points in favor of the Colts but initially opened at -7, which means favors are moving in the Jaguars way. Most likely due to that week two game in which the Jaguars owned the Colts in every way, but the Colts have slowly improved from the game while the Jaguars are starting to show expected mistakes.
The over/under total line is currently 42 points. A lot of the numbers would say the Under would be a smart bet considering the Colts have hit the Under in every game they’ve played this year. The Jaguars have shown their ability to score though, and we will have to wait and see if the Colts can find offensive production at home.
Jacksonville Jaguars Vs. Indianapolis Colts Picks & Prediction
My pick: Indianapolis Colts -2 (-107)
Even with the Colts earlier loss to the Jaguars this season, I think they are able to outmatch the Jaguars defensively and get their third win of the season. The Jaguars have started out strong but I think some of those issues that had them low-ranked preseason are starting to show with a young offense making mistakes. The Colts offense has been the lowest scoring this season out of all NFL teams averaging 13.8 per game. I think this game will allow Matt Ryan to gain more confidence with his offense coming off a win and the O-Line more of a chance to get structured to its new core.
Betting Trends
- The Jaguars are 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games in Indianapolis
- The Jaguars are also 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games
- The Colts are 5-1 ATS in their last six games when they let up less than 15 points in the previous game

How will Trevor Lawrence fare against a ballhawking Colts secondary?
Trevor Lawrence vs. Indianapolis Colts Defense
The major matchup I have my eye on is Trevor Lawrence vs. the Indy defense. The Indy defense was able to hold Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to under 20 points and held the Broncos and Russell Wilson to less than 10. Lawrence had a strong start and threw for 2 TDs and over 200 yds against the Colts in week two. The past two weeks though he has struggled, throwing for 2 INTs last weekend and having a league-high 4 fumbles in a game against the Eagles. I expect the Colts defense will possibly force some more for him this week.
