Although diminished as an “Opposite Field Event”, this event packs some interesting storylines, and a very solid field, with just the top 75 PGA Tour players making the trip overseas for the Genesis Scottish Open. Hurstbourne Country Club is the host for the second year in a row, and we still have much to learn about the property after William Mouw’s surprise come-from-behind win at 10-under-par in 2025. If we’ve learned anything about this venue, however, it is that these fairways are difficult to hold, creating an advantage for the longest hitters in the field who can turn this event into a driver-wedge fest.

THE FIELD AT A GLANCE
In a glimpse of what the 2028 Challenger series may look like, the “scraps” of players not otherwise qualified for the Genesis Scottish Open remain here in Louisville. However, as a testament to the depth of talent in the game of golf today, this field still features plenty of names to get excited about. Like the Scottish Open, the ISCO Championship will also be a co-sanctioned event between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, so we’ll get a glimpse of plenty of new faces and names from across the pond this week in Louisville.
Jackson Koivun will bring plenty of notoriety to this event. The former No. 1 Amateur turned professional last week and will be looking for a nice rebound after a disappointing missed cut at the John Deere Classic. Koivun will be the betting favorite this week, with proven veterans Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Max Homa, Davis Thompson, Denny McCarthy, and Taylor Pendrith also headlining.
William Mouw was your champion at Hurstbourne Country Club’s first time hosting the 2025 ISCO Championship, and he will be back for his title defense this week.
INTRODUCTION TO HURSTBOURNE COUNTRY CLUB
Hurstbourne Country Club subbed in for Keene Trace Golf Club as the official host of the ISCO Championship in 2025. Formerly the Barbasol Championship, this event had found a home at Keene Trace since 2018, but moved to Hurstbourne in 2025 in an effort to appeal to a larger audience of golf fans in the larger Louisville, Kentucky area.
At Keene Trace, this event was statistically the easiest on the PGA Tour, and therefore, one of the most straightforward tournaments to handicap; the best birdie-makers and players who were most proven in easy scoring conditions routinely rose to the top.
2025 marked a surprising shift for this tournament, however, as the 7,056-yard venue successfully kept the field at bay. William Mouw was 1-under-par going into Sunday, but was the only player to reach double digits under par by week’s end. He shot a final round 61, four strokes better than the next closest player, and ultimately eclipsed Paul Peterson by one stroke to pick up his first career PGA Tour victory.
I don’t believe four rounds are nearly enough data to draw any firm conclusions about this new golf course, but it’s clear that Hurstbourne Country Club requires more nuance to navigate than the ISCO Championship courses that preceded it. The data from 2025 suggests that Hurstbourne heavily favors Driving Distance over Driving Accuracy, with these narrower fairways proving difficult to hold for even the most precise drivers in the field.
From an approach distribution standpoint, we saw an interesting concentration of predominantly wedge shots from inside 125 yards, or long-iron approaches from beyond 200 yards. That combination tends to favor the longest hitters, who will more frequently hold a scoring club in hand.

Eleven players who finished inside the top-15 at this event last year have returned to the field this week: William Mouw, Paul Peterson, Manuel Elvira, David Skinns, Vince Whaley, Patrick Fishburn, Jackson Koivun, Luke List, Ben Kohles, Chad Ramey, and Nick Hardy.
Comp Courses
With just four rounds to go off of at Hurstbourne Country Club, it’s a crucial week to understand the closest comp courses to best approximate the conditions this field will face.
A par-70, 7,056 yard course that actually favors distance over accuracy is an uncommon archetype on the PGA Tour, but there are several relevant comp courses that fit the description.
Port Royal GC seems to feature the most similar characteristics, measuring at a very similar yardage and favoring bombers like Lucas Herbert, Taylor Pendrith, and Vince Whaley despite its lack of length. Beyond Port Royal, I’m also concentrating on other Fall Swing or Opposite Field hosts like Country Club of Jackson, Black Desert Resort, and Dunes Beach & Golf Club, as these are the most recent examples of driver-heavy setups where fields of this caliber have competed.
On a secondary basis, I’m also including Keene Trace and Valhalla GC as Kentucky venues that share similar agronomy, as well as PGA National, which has also kept scoring in check while favoring bombers despite its moderate course length.
Wrap that all together, and the top-10 in terms of Comp Course History include: Taylor Pendrith, Vince Whaley, Denny McCarthy, Steven Fisk, Patrick Rodgers, Beau Hossler, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Lucas Glover, Aaron Wise, and Stephan Jaeger.

Kicking things off with SG: APP, this stat will continue to dictate the contenders this week. Given the small sample size on this course, it’s best to assume that the players in complete control of their irons stand the best opportunity to generate birdie looks. The top 10 players in SG: APP are: Ben Kohles, Zac Blair, Mark Hubbard, Marcus Helligkilde, Joel Dahmen, Max McGreevy, Austin Eckroat, Luke Clanton, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, and Nick Dunlap.
Whenever we enter a new course (at least by PGA TOUR standards), it’s always safest to look more broadly at the all-encompassing stats as a baseline for trending form. The top 10 players in SG: T2G over the last 16 rounds are: Ben Kohles, Max McGreevy, Marty Dou, Davis Thompson, Mark Hubbard, Rico Hoey, Jackson Koivun, William Mouw, Luke List, and Christiaan Bezuidenhout.
In the absence of long-term strokes gained data to pull correlations from, the ideal profile fit to score at Hurstbourne Country Club should excel in SG: TOT (L24 rounds), Driving Distance, SG: APP, SG: ARG, Course & Comp Course History, and Weighted Putting (L36, Bentgrass). Eight players rank above average in each category: Ben Kohles, Max McGreevy, Jorge Campillo, Marty Dou, Davis Thompson, Emiliano Grillo, Chan Kim, and AJ Ewart.
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: STEPHAN JAEGER
When it comes to opposite field events, good form is a rare commodity. Jaeger, however, is on a very short list of sustained all-around form you can feel confident in heading into the ISCO Championship. He is the only player in this field with three top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour this season, and has finished top-20 in three of his last five starts. Jaeger also battled through a back injury during this recent run, but a T15 at last week’s John Deere Classic, where he ranked 4th in SG: APP, suggests to me that he is back in full health.
Hurstbourne Country Club is short by PGA Tour standards, but it played much longer than the scorecard would suggest in 2025. It produced over 25% of approaches from beyond 200 yards, which is where Jaeger has thrived throughout his career. It was his elite long iron play that proved to be the difference in his 2024 Texas Children’s Houston Open victory, and he won’t have to worry about Scottie Scheffler breathing down his neck this week in Louisville.
Bombers proved to have an advantage at the 2025 ISCO Championship, and if the same is true in 2026, Jaeger offers the best combination of form and fit in this field.

In my model, I’m emphasizing SG: T2G, SG: APP, SG: ARG, Driving Distance, and Comp Course History, followed by a more balanced mix of Prox: 75-125 & 200+, Bogey Avoidance, and SG: P (TOT & Bentgrass).
Model Favorites
Jackson Koivun was one of the most talked about players at the John Deere Classic last week, making his much-anticipated professional debut on the PGA Tour. After a very disappointing missed cut, he still remains the No. 1 player in my model, and the odds-on favorite to win the ISCO Championship.
After Koivun, the rest of my model’s top 10 features Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Chan Kim, Beau Hossler, Ben Kohles, Denny McCarthy, Ben Silverman, Paul Peterson, Austin Eckroat, and Steven Fisk.
It’s going to be a tricky week to project ISCO Championship odds, as similar to the Genesis Scottish Open, the sportsbooks will be handicapping the field across multiple tours. I expect a ton of variance on Scottish Open odds across the marketplace. For now, I’m leaning towards Stephan Jaeger, Preston Stout, and Lucas Glover to start my card.
