FIFA Club World Cup: Goalscorer Prop Bets
Expect A Defensive Showdown?
As is typical of many Brazilian clubs, Fluminense found its way into the semifinals primarily due to its focus on staying compact defensively and limiting its opponents from manufacturing high-quality scoring opportunities.
Among the 32 FIFA Club World Cup participants, it has allowed the sixth-fewest xG (3.95) in five matchups. Two of these matches were against some of the world’s best teams, including Borussia Dortmund and Champions League finalist Inter Milan.
Across these two fixtures, Fluminense surrendered under 1.0 combined xG. Goalkeeper Fábio has played a large role in Fluminense’s success in this tournament, as the Brazilian ranks in the 89th percentile in save percentage.
Fluminense’s offensive creativity is limited on the attack. Colombian forward John Arias represents Fluminense’s most talented option, but the frontline, as a whole, lacks upside. Despite scoring eight goals, it’s produced only 4.6 xG. I expect negative regression against a Chelsea defense that has improved in recent months.
While the Blues have revamped their attack since manager Enzo Maresca was appointed last summer, their midfield and defensive units are their biggest strengths. Similarly to Fluminense, Chelsea has exhibited above-average defensive numbers so far in the Club World Cup, yielding 4.9 xG in five matches.
Additionally, Chelsea allowed several chances to Flamengo in the group stage match after Nicolas Jackson was assessed a red card in the 68th minute. If it remained with 11 players on the pitch, I believe its xGA numbers would rank among the best in the tournament.
Chelsea-Fluminense Odds: Expert Predictions
For my money, the Blues’ defensive success is a byproduct of their midfield pivot. Maresca typically employs two of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Romeo Lavia in his midfield pairing. Caicedo, in particular, is arguably the world’s best player at his position and on the pitch.
Most notably, he breaks up opponents’ transition opportunities with ease and ranks in the 100th percentile for tackles won during the Club World Cup.
The Ecuadorian international star missed the last match due to yellow accumulation, but he’ll undoubtedly return to the starting lineup on Tuesday. Fluminense is already subpar in transition play, and the Chelsea midfield and backline will only make it more difficult for its opponent to find any success.
On the other side of the pitch, Chelsea ranks fourth in shots on target per match (7.0) and seventh in total xG created (8.7). Still, Fluminense’s defensive structure and tactics should give the Blues their toughest challenge yet.
In Chelsea’s last match against Palmeiras, it generated just 1.19 xG via 16 total shots. Palmeiras sat deep, absorbed pressure, and forced the Blues into low-quality scoring chances. Both Fluminense and Palmeiras possess similar defensive numbers across the board in their domestic league, so I expect more of the same on Tuesday.
Fluminense will look to slow down the tempo when possible and grind this into a tight and cagey matchup.

Chelsea-Fluminense Best Bets: FIFA Club World Cup Semifinal
My favorite bet is under 2.5 match goals. At the moment, the best odds for this bet are -115 at DraftKings Sportsbook. I also expect Chelsea to move on to the final. The Blues should limit Fluminense in attack and deliver plenty of pace and technical ability on their frontline. You can back them to reach the next round at .
I recommend focusing on the under and placing a smaller stake on Chelsea “to advance.” Good luck with your bets on Chelsea vs. Fluminense odds!
