Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions Matchup Preview (1/9/22)
Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions Betting Odds
Green Bay is a 3-point road favorite over Detroit. The Lions are 10-6 against the spread this season; 2-5 at home. The Packers are 9-1 against the spread in their last 10 games vs. NFC opponents. Under is 5-0 in Lions last five games vs. a team with a winning record. Over is 11-1 in Green Bay’s last 12 games in January. Under is 4-0 in Detroit’s last four games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game; in week 17 the Lions allowed 51 points to the Seahawks. The Packers are 0-4 against the spread in their last four meetings in Detroit. The home team is 4-0 against the spread in their last four meetings.
My predictions: I like the Packers at -3 to win 28-20. The teams will combine to score over 44.5 points.

Green Bay Packers Analysis
Green Bay is averaging 364.8 yards per game of total offense, 12th in the league and averaging 26.3 points per game this season, ranking them tenth in the NFL.
Aaron Rodgers threw for 288 yards, two touchdowns, completed 76.3% of his passes for a 114.8 quarterback rating in the week 17 win over Minnesota. Rodgers has thrown the most touchdown passes in Packers’ history with 447. The three-time All-Pro has thrown for 3,977 yards, 35 touchdowns, four interceptions and completing 68.6 of his passes this campaign. Additionally, he leads the league in quarterback rating (111.1) and QBR (67.8). Rodgers is scheduled to start the game, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jordan Love in the second half to finish up the game. Currently, Aaron Rodgers is -400 to win his fourth league MVP award.
Davante Adams is one of the top three receivers in the NFL. His ability to get off the line of scrimmage quickly and get into his breaks is extraordinary. The chemistry he has with quarterback Aaron Rodgers is outstanding. In the victory over the Vikings this past weekend, the five-time Pro Bowler had 11 catches for 136 yards and a touchdown. On the season, he has 117 receptions (second in the league) for 1,498 yards (third in the NFL) and 11 touchdowns (fifth in the league); averaging 99.9 yards receiving per game. In his career as a Packer, the reliable eight-year veteran is averaging 12.2 yards per reception. Adams is the sixth player in NFL history with at least 600 catches, 8,000 yards and 70 touchdowns in his first eight seasons.
In the win vs. the Vikings, Aaron Jones rushed for 76 yards. On the season, he leads Green Bay in rushing with 799 yards: averaging 53.3 rushing yards per game. Additionally, he has 10 total touchdowns this season (four rushing and six receiving). Aaron Jones is the sixth player in Packers history with at least 4,000 career rushing yards, he currently has 4,163. Battling a knee injury, he’s been limited in practice this week. I wouldn’t be surprised if he did not play against the Lions.
The Packers’ defense is allowing 323.4 yards per game in total offense, 11th in the league and 20.9 points per game to their opponents this season, ranking them eighth in the NFL.
With his size and speed, Rashan Gary is finally showing why he was a first-round pick in the 2019 draft. This season, he leads the team with 9.5 sacks. Additionally, he has two forced fumbles, eight tackles for loss and 28 quarterback hits. Rasul Douglas has been awesome since being picked up by the Packers earlier in the year. He leads the team with five interceptions while playing in 11 games this campaign

Detroit Lions Analysis
Detroit is ranked 22nd in the NFL in total offense with 317.5 yards. They’re scoring 18 points per game, ranking them 28th in the league.
Due to being placed on the reserve/COVID list before week 16 and nursing a knee injury Jared Goff has missed the last two games. The hope is that he’s available in the season finale against the Packers. In his first year in Detroit, he has thrown for 3,007 yards, 17 touchdowns, eight interceptions with a 36.4 QBR. Tim Boyle has started Detroit’s last two games, throwing for a combined 449 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions. In three starts this season, Boyle is 0-3. Many expect Jared Goff to be back at least for next season, but will the Lions use their first-round pick on a quarterback such as Kenny Pickett or Matt Corral?
The Detroit running attack is averaging 111.7 yards per game ranking them 18th in the NFL. D’Andre Swift is the Lions leading rusher this season with 587 yards on 144 carries and four scores this season: averaging 4.1 rushing yards per attempt. In week 17 he rushed for 32 yards in his first action since suffering a shoulder injury on Thanksgiving against the Bears. Swift is the first Lions running back with 1,000 plus scrimmage yards (1,023) in a season since Joique Bell in 2014. Jamaal Williams has started 11 games for Detroit this season. Williams has carried the ball 140 times for 558 yards and three touchdowns: averaging 46.5 yards per game.
Rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown from USC is Detroit’s leading receiver. On the season he has 82 receptions for 803 yards and four touchdowns: averaging 50.2 receiving yards per game. Over his last five games St. Brown has been fantastic, catching 43 passes for 451 yards; averaging 10.5 yards a reception. In the loss to Seattle in week 17, he had 8 catches for 111 yards and a touchdown: his first 100-yard receiving game of his career.
Defensively, the Lions are allowing 379.9 yards of total offense to their opponents this season, ranking them 28th in the NFL. Ranked 30th in the league, Detroit is allowing 27.3 points per game
Linebacker Charles Harris is leading the team in sacks with 7.5. He also has 32 solo tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 15 quarterback hits.

Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions Daily Fantasy Picks
AJ Dillon is second on the team in rushing with 740 yards: averaging 4.3 yards a carry. The second-year pro leads the team with five touchdowns on the ground. Dillon has three rushing touchdowns in his last three games.
Amon-Ra St. Brown is the first Lions player with at least 70 receiving yards in five straight games since 2015. Per NFL.com, St. Brown is the first Lions player with 60 plus receiving yards and at least one touchdown reception in three straight games since Calvin Johnson did so, in 2013. He has five straight games of eight or more receptions, which is the longest streak amongst rookies since the 1970 AFL/NFL merger.
