Opening Week 10 NFL Odds: Spreads, Moneylines, Totals
Philadelphia Eagles at Green Bay Packers: Monday, Nov. 10, 8:15 p.m.
The Eagles were on bye in Week 9 after dispatching of the Giants in Week 8 to move to 6-2. Saquon Barkley’s condition will be a matter of supreme import from both a football and betting perspective, as the star back injured his groin in the second half against New York after having put together his best performance of the campaign by far. A.J. Brown’s hamstring injury will also be matter of intense scrutiny after the star wideout sat out Week 8.
The Packers fell to 5-2-1 on Sunday in a major upset last-second loss to the Panthers. Green Bay piled up plenty of yards — 273 through the air and 104 on the ground — but the Pack only mustered 13 points on Jordan Love’s 27th birthday. Additionally, star tight end Tucker Kraft suffered what appeared to be a serious knee injury, an absence that would loom very large however long it lasts due to the significant role he’d carved out in the air attack.
The Pack is a 3-point home favorite as of Sunday afternoon, but this line will be ripe for movement depending on the evolution of the three noteworthy injuries.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Los Angeles Chargers: Sunday, Nov. 9, 8:20 p.m.
The Steelers pulled off quite the feat in Week 9, mucking up the works of what had been a nearly unstoppable Colts offense in a 27-20 win. Pittsburgh’s defense, which had been uncharacteristically porous on several occasions over the first half of the season, sacked Daniel Jones five times while also picking him off on three occasions. Aaron Rodgers also put together another mistake-free effort and tossed a touchdown, helping complement the efforts on the other side of the ball.
The Chargers got a bit of a scare from the Titans on the road thanks to some strong defensive and special-teams work, but Los Angeles eventually settled in behind strong two-way play from Justin Herbert, who complemented 250 passing yards and two touchdowns with a 9-57-1 rushing line. However, standout left tackle Joe Alt went down with what is believed to be another high-ankle sprain, and Herbert unsurprisingly went down six times overall. With the Steelers’ defense having regained some confidence Sunday, this could be a major point of vulnerability if Alt remains sidelined.
For the time being, the Bolts are between 4- and 4.5-point home favorites.
Los Angeles Rams at San Francisco 49ers: Sunday, Nov. 9, 4:25 p.m. ET
The Rams rolled over the Saints as expected in Tyler Shough’s first NFL start, with Los Angeles recording a 34-10 win over New Orleans. The game was a virtual warm-up for this critical divisional clash, as Matthew Stafford threw for 281 yards and four touchdowns while Kyren Williams and Blake Corum combined to rush for 172 yards and a touchdown (Williams). Los Angeles is now 6-2 and riding a three-game winning streak, and as he proved Sunday while posting a 7-95-1 line, Puka Nacua is back to full health.
The Niners went into MetLife Stadium and disposed of the Giants as expected, recording a 34-24 victory. Mac Jones was under center again while Brock Purdy was inactive due to his toe injury, but the latter reportedly has a chance to finally get back into action for this game. Christian McCaffrey led the way for San Francisco’s offense, and he’ll naturally project for an integral role again in key game.
The Rams are notably 3- to-3.5-point road favorites as of Sunday night, although that number will be ripe for some change if Purdy is announced as available.
New England Patriots at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Sunday, Nov. 9, 1:00 p.m.
The Patriots got all they could handle from the visiting Falcons in Week 9, but New England managed to escape with a 24-23 win over Atlanta despite the absence of Rhamondre Stevenson (toe). Drake Maye threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns while adding 20 rushing yards. New England has now rattled off six straight wins, with three of those coming on the road.
The Buccaneers were on a bye in Week 9, one their injury-decimated offense desperately needed. Tampa Bay will have a good chance of getting Bucky Irving (shoulder/foot) and Chris Godwin (fibula) back from their multi-game absences, which should prove invaluable for Baker Mayfield, who’s managed to keep his squad afloat through all the adversity.
The Bucs are 2.5-point home favorites as of Sunday night, but if Irving and/or Godwin still aren’t trending to play later in the week, the spread here could be on the move.
