New England Patriots vs. New York Jets Prediction & Best Bet
It’s been a rollercoaster of a season for the New York Jets and we are only in week three. They opened the season by losing their star quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a season ending injury in just four plays of his Jets career, somehow snuck a win against the Bills, and then crashed hard back down to reality in a thumping against the Dallas Cowboys.
A shame for the Jets as they had Super Bowl aspirations after the Aaron Rodgers trade. The harsh reality is that they can only go as far as Zach Wilson can take them and that’s not very far at all as he remains one of the worst quarterbacks in football. Under Wilson, the Jets are the third worst team in Off EPA.
While it’s certainly not fair to judge him off of his lone start against the Cowboys defense, Wilson’s track record of mediocrity during the span of his career speaks volumes. He now has to find production in a hurry as the Patriots defense will do him no favors as they are a stout defense in their own right.
While the Cowboys were able to beat the Jets offense through sheer force on the defensive line, the Patriots defense will rely more on disguises and trickery. Bill Belichick has mastered this art of defense, tricking young and inexperienced quarterbacks to throw into tight windows with the Patriots secondary being in a favorable position to cover the ground and force the turnover. An absolute disaster scenario for Zach Wilson who already struggles making the right read against a standard defense.
On the other end, it’s certainly hard to compliment the middling quarterback but he looked like a whole new person under center when the Patriots ran the two-minute drill. This is when their offense looked best, capitalizing on a reeling defense that eventually led to points on the board. To counteract the Jets ironclad defense, we may see the Patriots opt into the idea of running a quicker pace offense in an attempt to create gaps against the Jets moving secondary.
New England Patriots vs. New York Jets Prediction & Best Bet: Patriots -2.5
New England Patriots vs. New York Jets Betting Odds
The loss of Aaron Rodgers cannot be overstated as the drop off to his backup Zach Wilson is insurmountable. The Jets opened as high as -4.5 on the looked ahead line and have been brought down all the way to +3 in some shops as of writing. Factor that and the Patriots track record of success against Zach Wilson, and this has all the makings for the Patriots first win of the season.
As for the total, points are expected to be scored at a snail’s pace as oddsmakers opened the number at 38.5. Bettors are in agreement, taking the number down to as low as 36.5 as of writing. That comes as no surprise as this matchup will feature two elite defenses giving the opposing offense fits all game long.
New England Patriots vs. New York Jets Key Injuries
Trent Brown, Cole Strange, and Mike Onwenu are all listed as questionable on the Patriots injury report, posing a serious issue if they can’t give it a go against the Jets front seven.

Can Rhamondre Stevenson open up the pass attack for the Patriots against the Jets defense?
Rhamondre Stevenson Vs. Jets Front Seven
While the Patriots can certainly open up holes in the Jets defense by ramping up the tempo, they can also force the second level to stack the box against dual threat running back Rhamondre Stevenson.

Stevenson’s production plays a massive role in this contest as his production may force the linebackers to sit on an island by respecting both his running ability and screens out the backfield. Mac Jones needs all the help he can get, potentially using Stevenson to set up the pass when the Jets defense gets greedy.
