Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Indianapolis Colts Matchup Preview (11/14/21)

There was a time this year when many believed the Jacksonville Jaguars could very well go 0-17. However, they’ve put together a few interesting winds this season, one over the Miami Dolphins in London and one against the Buffalo Bills, thought to be one of the best teams in the AFC. Although the Jaguars are basically out of the playoff race, they’ve got a chance to play spoiler down the road if they can put together big wins like they did on Sunday. However, like any team that nabs a big win, you’ve got to make sure not to overreact as a bettor.

The Indianapolis Colts, on the other hand, are coming off a Thursday Night Football game in which they put up 45 points on the New York Jets. However, they also allowed New York to put together some big drives towards the end of the game, nearly letting the team cover the spread. Still, the Colts have shown some strength so far this season, and they’ll need to keep fighting if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive. Here’s what every sports bettor should know about the upcoming matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Indianapolis Colts Betting Odds

The Jaguars are a tough team to bet on, even after one big win. Don’t forget the Jaguars are still 3-5 against the spread and have recently been blown out by a Seattle Seahawks team fielding a backup QB. For now, I’m considering last week a fluke and staying vigilant in fading the Jaguars, especially considering they’re still dealing with some injuries. The Colts, meanwhile, are 6-3 against the spread and have been getting much more competitive over the weeks. I’m still concerned about this defense, and it’s definitely something the team will look over in the offseason. But, as long as the team has Jonathan Taylor, they can steal some wins.

So how should you bet this game? Double digits might seem like a lot to lay, but I’m still liking the home favorite here. The Jags are dealing with injuries and will find keeping the momentum to another win difficult. Meanwhile, the Colts are finding some offensive consistency with QB Carson Wentz at the helm, gaining 371 points and scoring 27.2 points per game. Like the Jets last week, the Jags will get garbage time points and nearly cover, but it simply won’t be enough.

My predictions: Colts win 38-24, Colts -10, over 47.5 points

Jacksonville Jaguars Analysis

It wasn’t that long ago when media pundits were predicting the early termination of head coach Urban Meyer. However, a big win over the Buffalo Bills will save your job, if even for another few weeks. There’s still tons of work to be done before this team can be considered competitive. After all, Sunday’s 9-6 win over the fluke could be seen as more of a fluke than a major turnaround depending on what happens next.

QB Trevor Lawrence might not be Offensive Rookie of the Year this season, but he seems to be learning more week after week. Most importantly, he’s limiting turnovers, as he’s only thrown two picks in his last five games. Considering he tossed seven in his first three games, that’s showing some improvement. He’s currently listed as questionable, as is talented running back James Robinson. If those two end up playing, Jacksonville has a much better chance to compete this week.

On paper, the Jaguars have been subpar on defense. The team is currently allowing 375.4 yards per game, ranking them 24th in the league. However, limiting one of the top offenses in the league to 301 yards last week might mean they’re figuring things out. Linebacker Josh Allen should be especially happy with his performance on Sunday, recording eight tackles along with a sack and an interception. If he can build on that performance, this unit could help the Jags win a few more games this year.

Indianapolis Colts Analysis

Props to you if you can figure out the Indianapolis Colts this season. The team has collected some big wins over lesser competition like the Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans, and New York Jets while losing close matches against the Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Ravens, and Tennessee Titans. This year’s Colts feel like a middle-of-the-road team that can bury low-tier teams and lose against playoff contenders. For a team with postseason hopes themselves, that’s got to be frustrating.

One thing’s for certain: Jonathan Taylor is on fire right now. The talented running back is coming off a game against the Jets in which he totaled 172 yards and two scores with a 9.1 average. Over the past four weeks, he’s averaged 123.5 yards per game, and it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he can be the league rushing leader at the end of the year. He’s facing another subpar defense this week, so don’t be surprised to see another monster game.

The Indianapolis defense has been very disappointing this season. The team’s allowing 367.3 yards per game after being considered one of the team’s strong points heading into the year. The weaknesses were all on display Thursday night when they allowed a third-string quarterback to throw for 317 yards and three scores. That’s not the type of defense you feel comfortable with heading into the second half of the season.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Indianapolis Colts Daily Fantasy Picks

All the focus is on Michael Pittman Jr. for the Colts. And for good reason, the receiver is the go-to for Carson Wentz in this offense. However, fellow WR Zach Pascal is stringing together a decent season, ranking second in team receptions and finding the end zone three times. The Jaguars field the 26th pass defense in the league, and Colts receivers will be able to pick on them all day long. Take Pascal at $4,500 on DraftKings.
