Las Vegas Raiders vs. New York Giants Matchup Preview (11/7/21)

Now that we’re pretty much at the halfway point of the season, it’s pretty interesting to see the Las Vegas Raiders at the top of the AFC West. The team is 5-2 and riding a two-game winning streak since the departure of head coach Jon Gruden. The off-the-field noise hasn’t bothered the team, and they’re rested after a bye week. The Raiders now have a lead over the rest of the talented division, and will need to keep their foot on the gas to stay ahead of the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs.

The New York Giants are coming off a tough loss against the Chiefs. However, the team showed some fight in the Monday Night Football matchup, suffering a 20-17 loss. The Giants might not be loaded with talent, but they’ve at least been staying competitive. Injuries to key offensive positions have been holding New York back, and you have to wonder if Monday night’s game would have been a win if the team still had RB Saquon Barkley and WR Kenny Golladay. With the Giants hosting the Raiders at MetLife Stadium this Sunday, this is what you should expect.

Las Vegas Raiders vs. New York Giants Betting Odds

Love them or hate them, the Raiders are an interesting team to watch this year. If Las Vegas stays competitive and marks a deep playoff run, there could very well be an ESPN special on the way. Now, the team has the opportunity to jump to 6-2, and I believe they’ll do it with ease. The Raiders are on a 2-0 straight up and ATS run, and I fully expect them to make that 3-0 after this week. As much as I credit the Giants for upsetting the Carolina Panthers and keeping it close against the Chiefs the past few weeks, I don’t have faith in them to keep up this week.

Frankly, I’m a bit surprised that this is only a three-point line at the time of this writing. I understand there’s still some skepticism surrounding both teams, but the Raiders have simply shown more this year. Let’s not forget that the Giants have suffered blowout losses to the Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, and Los Angeles Rams throughout the season. Take the Raiders on the road this week and don’t be shocked if Vegas leaves with another double-digit win.

My predictions: Raiders win 27-18, Raiders -3, under 46.5 points

Las Vegas Raiders Analysis

The Raiders certainly went into their bye week on a high note. Las Vegas had double-digit wins over the Denver Broncos and Philadelphia Eagles, and the team seems to have new energy under interim coach Rich Bisaccia. Now, they need to prove that the wins weren’t a fluke. Taking down a New York Giants team that’s shown flashes of competitiveness is just what the doctor ordered.

For some reason, QB Derek Carr isn’t in the MVP conversation this season. But he’s been putting up solid numbers and led the Raiders to some big wins, so that may change over time. Carr has passed for 12 TDs and five picks with a rating of 101.2. The return of tight end Darren Waller should be a big factor for Carr’s continued success, especially with Henry Ruggs III facing serious legal issues.

The Las Vegas defense has been about as decent as you could imagine this season. The team’s allowing 354 yards per game, ranking them 14th in the league in overall defense. Outside of DE Maxx Crosby, who leads the team with five sacks, there’s not a lot of defensive firepower on the team right now. However, as long as the defense can bend without breaking while the offense puts up points, the Raiders have a chance to keep up their surprising season.

New York Giants Analysis

Moral victories don’t exist in the NFL, but nearly beating the AFC champs has to count for something. The Giants lost by only a field goal and kept the game close all throughout Sunday night. Still, the team is 2-6 and well behind in the playoff race, especially considering the Giants share a division with the 6-1 Dallas Cowboys. Joe Judge is likely going to be coaching for his job for the near future, and that will be a huge factor in the next couple of months.

QB Daniel Jones is also fighting for his job right now. The former first round pick needed a strong season to reward New York’s faith in him, and that hasn’t been the case so far. He’s had a few decent games, but performances like his three-pick fiasco against the Los Angeles Rams have got to make the organization skeptical. Of course, injuries to offensive players are partially to blame, but the team hasn’t had one big offensive performance this year even with everyone healthy.

The Giants defense is nothing to write home about. They’re allowing 368.6 yards per game along with 25 points every week. They did do a good job against the Kansas City Chiefs, but it’s difficult to tell if that has more to do with the strength of New York’s defense or KC’s offensive incompetency over the past few weeks. At the very least, the team is getting some shots at opposing QBs. DE Leonard Williams and LB Azeez Ojulari have combined for 11 sacks this season, and they’ll need to keep it up if the Giants want to stay afloat.

Las Vegas Raiders vs. New York Giants Daily Fantasy Picks

The return of tight end Darren Waller is important for this team. However, as the second-most expensive tight end on DraftKings, it’s tough to argue that there’s much value with the talented receiver. Instead, I’d lean on WR Hunter Renfrow. Renfrow has shined at times this year, and he’ll be getting more attention with defenders focusing on Waller and the uncertain status of WR Henry Ruggs III. Renfrow is listed as $4,800 on DraftKings, so I definitely see some value with the Raiders wide receiver.
