Some regions are easier to predict than others. No African side has ever won the FIFA World Cup, but the quality of some of the nations involved shouldn’t be underestimated. In particular, Morocco and Senegal both have the ability to cause any team serious problems. In addition, the Ghana, Egypt and Algeria squads all contain high-quality players – Antoine Semenyo, Mo Salah and Riyad Mahrez to name just one star man from each of those nations.
It’s tough, however, to look past Morocco to be the top African team. They reached the Semi Final in 2022 and they head into the 2026 tournament in record-breaking form. True, Senegal are a fantastic side too but for me, Brahim Diaz and co have the most potential to reach the latter stages of the competition.

The 2026 World Cup host nations, along with Panama, Curacao and Haiti, make up the CONCACAF sides in this year’s competition. USA is the favorite to progress further than any other CONCACAF side but it will still be tough to progress to the latter stages. I’m expecting the United States to progress from Group D, but they could potentially face Senegal or Norway in the Round of 32, followed by Belgium in the Round of 16.
Mexico is in a slightly easier Group but again, they’re likely to face tough opponents in the Round of 32 and Round of 16 Stages. Canada are likely to find it tough to progress out of Group B, if they do they face potential games against the Czech Republic and Brazil.
Panama, Curacao and Haiti are unlikely to make it to the Knockout Stages, which leaves us with the three host nations. Of the three, the USA has the strongest squad. Just. It’s a tough region to call, but I’ll go with the sportsbooks here and say the United States will get further than any other CONCACAF nation.

While some regional betting groups are pretty difficult to predict, deciding on the top Asian/Oceanian team doesn’t cause me too many concerns. It’s Japan. One of the most underrated sides in this year’s World Cup, the level of technical quality this Japan side has is breathtaking. If you’ve not watched a lot of Japan fixtures recently, you’ll be impressed by what they’re capable of. They’re one of the teams I’m most looking forward to watching and I think they’ll surprise a few in this year’s competition.
Australia and South Korea have the potential to reach the Knockout Rounds, but likely only as a best ranked third placed team if they qualify at all. Australia are in Group D, along with co-hosts USA, as well as Turkey and Paraguay. South Korea also shares a group with a host nation, in Group A with Mexico, South Africa and Czech Republic.
It’s difficult to really see any other Asian or Oceanian team progressing from their respective Groups. Do I expect Japan to challenge for the title? No. Do I expect them to reach the Quarter Final stage? Yes. Do I expect them to be the best performing Asian/Oceanian team? Absolutely.

Picking which European team will progress the furthest is arguably the most difficult out of all 2026 World Cup regions. Out of the top ten favorites to win the 2026 tournament outright, eight are European. Of the last ten World Cup tournaments, the winning team has come from Europe on six occasions. In fact, of the last 20 teams to reach a World Cup Final, 13 have been European nations.
There are 16 European nations taking part in the 2026 World Cup. Of these, I’m expecting 14 to progress to the Knockout Stages, with Scotland and Sweden missing out. In fact, I think all 14 will reach the Round of 16 Stage, with France, Spain, Belgium, Croatia and Portugal making the last eight.
So, which of these will be the top European team? The favorites to win the 2026 World Cup are Spain, France and England. For me, it’s France who will go further than any of their European counterparts. As well as my choice for being the top European team, Didier Deschamps’ side are also my pick to lift the World Cup.

The South American entrants to the 2026 World Cup are all strong squads. I think all will progress out of their Groups, either as group winners, runners up or one of the best ranked third placed teams.
There are two, however, that stand out – Brazil and Argentina. While Colombia, Uruguay, Ecuador and Paraguay are all capable of causing any side problems, none of them are likely to surpass the five-time winners or current Champions.
It’s between Brazil and Argentina for the top South American side. For me, it’s Argentina. Brazil aren’t the side they once were, their squad lacks the overall quality of previous incarnations. Of course, the Carlo Ancelotti factor is important but for me it won’t be enough to see Brazil reach the latter stages of the competition.
I think Brazil will actually find it difficult to top Group C, with Morocco my pick to finish top of that Group. If Brazil do finish as group runners up, their potential route to the Final is much tougher than that of Argentina’s.
If Argentina top their Group, which I believe they will, they’ll have a great opportunity to reach a second consecutive World Cup Final.
