Monday’s Anytime Goal Scorer Picks
- Kirill Kaprizov
- Quinn Hughes
- Martin Necas
- Brock Nelson
Kirill Kaprizov Anytime Goal Scorer
After being held without a goal in the first game of the series against Colorado, Kirill Kaprizov has started to get into a groove, scoring in each of their last two games. A stretch of play that has mirrored what the Minnesota Wild forward was able to do throughout the regular season, entering the playoffs averaging nearly 0.50 Expected Goals per game.
With Joel Eriksson Ek expected to make his return to the ice on Monday night, the Wild will receive a much needed boost to their offense, making it easier to create space in the middle for Kaprizov to exploit. With Kaprizov consistently weaving the puck through the Avs suffocating coverage, he will be able to pressure the net at a higher rate and score his third goal of the series.
Quinn Hughes Anytime Goal Scorer
Since joining the Wild, Quinn Hughes has had no issue with consistently pressuring the net, averaging 2.53 Shots on Goal per game. His production from the blue line has helped turn the Wild into a more versatile offense, contributing to a group who resides in the top half of the board in Expected Goals For in All Situations and in 5-on-5 Play.
Heading into Monday night, expect Hughes to continue to apply pressure from the back end, taking advantage of the wider shooting lanes Kaprizov and Matt Boldy create with their gravity. With the Avs stretched out thin, the probability of Hughes shot attempts being walled off declines, leading to a higher volume of Shots on Goal which increases his chances of scoring.
Martin Necas Anytime Goal Scorer
Martin Necas has been as consistent as it gets in regard to pressuring the Wild’s net, generating three Shots on Goal in each game of the series. While his nine total Shots on Goal have only translated to one goal put up on the board, positive regression looms large with the Avs forward averaging 0.34 Expected Goals per game.
In a bounce back spot against the Wild, expect Necas to capitalize on his high quality scoring opportunities by relentlessly attacking a back line who continues to stumble down the board in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. Even with Jesper Wallstedt fresh off of a dominant performance, the Avs spread out assault will force the Wild goalie to scramble across the ice, opening up wider gaps beside him.
Brock Nelson Anytime Goal Scorer
In his first full year with the Avs, Brock Nelson has been able to carry over the success he had with the New York Islanders into his new home, averaging 0.38 Expected Goals and 2.30 Shots on Goal per game. His individual production has helped turn the Avs front line into the most efficient unit in the league, ranked first in Expected Goals For.
With the Wild forced to shade their coverage towards Nathan MacKinnon, Nelson will be able to break away from the singular coverage he receives on the opposite side, leading to a higher volume of shot attempts in front of the crease. For those interested in First Goal Scorer props, split your unit into thirds and place each piece on MacKinnon, Kaprizov, and Nelson.
