Buffalo Bills at Denver Broncos: Saturday, Jan. 17, 4:30 p.m. ET
Josh Allen did it yet again Sunday, rescuing the Bills from potential defeat down in Jacksonville with a 15-yard TD strike to Dalton Kincaid and a one-yard touchdown run one play after one of the more memorable and extended tush pushes in the play’s storied history. Buffalo then picked off Trevor Lawrence on the ensuing possession to close out any hopes of Jacksonville mounting its own late scoring drive, earning the Bills a challenging trip to the Mile High City. Sean Payton’s squad will be well-rested following the bye, and given their rather surprising status as home underdogs, perhaps a bit more motivated than they already would have been for their postseason opener. Adding to the intrigue is that this year’s iterations of these two talented teams did not meet during the regular season, as well as the fact Denver was 8-1 straight up at home this season. The Broncos had a solid +7.8-point scoring margin at home during the regular season, but the Bills finished with an impressive +5.4-point figure on the road. Meanwhile, Buffalo was just 4-4 ATS as a road favorite, while the Broncos were 2-0 vs. the number as a home underdog.
San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks: Saturday, Jan. 17, 8:00 p.m. ET
The 49ers put together a gutsy performance in Philadelphia on Sunday, overcoming an Achilles tear for George Kittle in the first half and putting on an impressive defensive stand to hold off the defending champions by a 23-19 score. Kittle’s absence the rest of the way will naturally be a significant obstacle to overcome for both the passing and ground attacks, especially against an elite Seahawks defense. The Seahawks are unsurprisingly solid home favorites, especially after a convincing 13-3 win over San Francisco in Week 18 that secured them the No. 1 seed. However, despite just 46 total points being scored in the two regular-season meetings between the teams, the total is just a half-point less.
Houston Texans at New England Patriots: Sunday, Jan. 18, 3:00 p.m. ET
The Texans defense put together another signature performance Monday night, upending the Steelers by a 30-6 score and putting a punctuation mark on the win in the form of a pick-six that may have sent Aaron Rodgers into retirement. C.J. Stroud (250 passing yards) and Woody Marks (112 rushing yards) contributed a touchdown apiece to lead the offense’s balanced effort, sending DeMeco Ryans’ unit into this showdown against the Patriots with plenty of momentum. Houston will presumably need it, considering the Patriots put on quite the performance themselves against the Chargers in Sunday night’s 16-3 victory. New England’s defense made its own statement with six sacks of Justin Herbert, and Drake Maye threw for 268 yards with a TD and INT while adding 66 rushing yards on 10 carries. The Pats have opened as 2.5-point home favorites and are 5-2-1 ATS in that split since the start of the regular season.
Los Angeles Rams at Chicago Bears: Sunday, Jan. 18, 6:30 p.m. ET
The Rams got more than they bargained for from the Panthers again in Saturday’s wild-card battle, but Los Angeles was able to squeeze out a 34-31 win thanks to a late touchdown. Matthew Stafford appeared to suffer a hand injury in the first half, but he was able to bounce back late to fire a pair of fourth-quarter TD passes for the victory. The Bears had some fourth-quarter heroics of their own, mounting the biggest postseason comeback in the franchise’s rich history to get past a Packers team that had them on the ropes. Caleb Williams made some big-time throws at critical moments, Colston Loveland once again paced the air attack to extend his torrid stretch of productive performances, and Rome Odunze had a pair of nice gains in his return from a five-game absence due to a foot injury. Nevertheless, in what is quite an eye-catching line, it’s the Rams that are early solid road favorites. Los Angeles is 4-3 ATS as a road favorite since the start of the season, while Chicago is 2-0 as a home underdog.
