Buffalo Bills vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Matchup Preview (12/12/21)
The 7-5 Buffalo Bills are flying to Tampa Bay, Florida, to face off against the NFC South leaders and reigning Super Bowl Champions, the Buccaneers, at Raymond James Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:25 PM EST on Sunday, December 12th, 2021. Tom Brady reclaimed his place as the top quarterback in stats after last week’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, with staggering numbers reinforcing his status as the “GOAT.” The Buccaneers have been plowing through the league with a three-game win streak that doesn’t appear to be slowing down with Brady’s skill. The Bills took a tough loss last week against AFC East rivals, the New England Patriots, and are wanting to realign their place in the league. A win against the Bucs could be huge for morale and postseason placement. However, the Bucs have a merciless team that is inching to re-establish themselves as the best team in the league over the Arizona Cardinals.
Buffalo Bills vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Betting Odds
This game is going to come down to a battle of the offense. Both teams have impressive defenses, and the team with the best strategy to stump the other’s defense will emerge victoriously. ESPN’s matchup predictor believes it will be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who come out ahead with a 57.5% certainty. This leaves the Bills with a 42.2% chance to prove them wrong.
The DraftKings spread also gives Tampa Bay the upper hand. They place the spread at Buccaneers -3.5 and Buffalo +3.5. The moneyline is Bucs -165 and Bills +145. The over/under is looking to be around 53.5. However, many other writers are speculating an upset this week. It seems to be very risky to bet against the reigning Super Bowl Champs, especially when they’ve been 5-0 at home this season. The Bucs have had sporadic losses throughout the season, but the Bills have had worse losses. I think this will be a great game to watch but will not lead to an underdog win. Tom Brady is notorious for being excellent under pressure and has the record for most 4th quarter comebacks in NFL history. It would be shocking for me to see the Bucs take their first home game loss this week against the Bills.
My Prediction: Buccaneers Win 35-31, Over 53.5

Buffalo Bills Analysis
This year, the Buffalo Bills started on a hot streak with a 4-1 record into Week 5. People were projecting they could be a Championship contender until they began to fall into a pattern of losing games they should have dominated. Their 9-6 loss to the Jaguars in Week 9 set them back on opportunity and reputation in this competitive league. Entering Week 14, the Bills need to pull out wins to prevent the Dolphins from sneaking their way into the playoff seed since they’re only two games behind.
Quarterback Josh Allen will need to rally his team and lead them in strategic plays in order to stump the Bucs defense. Allen has 3,216 passing yards this season, averaging 268 yards per game. This will be the toughest matchup of the season for the New York team, and they don’t have the Bills Mafia home-field advantage to help them with momentum. The Bucs’ defense has begun to slip on pass guarding efficiency, so Allen will need to be prepared and aggressive to take advantage. Exposing weaknesses in the defense is the best chance the Bills have to prevent this game from being another Buccaneer’s massacre.
If the Bills are going to utilize their passing offense, Stefon Diggs is going to be the star. Diggs leads the team in receiving yards with 898 yards and has been a target 108 times. Out of the 108 targets, Diggs has only been able to come down with the ball 71 times, leaving him with opportunities to make plays 65.7% of the time. Allen will have to focus on creating accurate throws, and Diggs will need to extend his body and finish the catches to potentially lead to victory.
The Bills rush game has been mediocre compared to other teams in the league. Their top rusher, Devin Singletary, only has 108 carries for 495 yards. The Bills’ best strategy will be to be unpredictable. However, calling rush plays could be dangerous against the top rush defense. The team will need to have intricate plays to open gaps to allow for Singletary to have opportunities to take the ball to the endzone.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Analysis
It’s no secret that Tom Brady is a massive weapon of destruction for its opponents. Brady has been in the league for over twenty years and has proven himself to be a real-life “Rudy” story after being the 199th pick in the 2000 NFL draft. This season, he finds himself in first place in the league in passing yards and passing touchdowns after overthrowing Raiders QB Derek Carr. He has 3,771 passing yards on the year with 34 touchdown passes. He’s thrown only ten interceptions in this season, which have been thrown sporadically in certain games. Brady put up an incredible game against the Falcons last week with 368 passing yards, increasing his average yards per game to 314. The Falcons have one of the worst defenses in the league, so it was a breeze to put up impressive stats for the veteran QB. However, the Bills have the best pass defense in the league and could take advantage of Brady’s minor miscalculations. The greatest quarterback of all time will need to prove his name against a more aggressive defense, so we will see if he’s still capable of performing under pressure.
Chris Godwin has been one of Brady’s favorite targets this season. He has put up 949 receiving yards so far this 2021 season. Godwin takes advantage of weaknesses in defense like it’s easy, making him a considerable threat on the field. He had 15 receptions for 143 yards against the Falcons last week, proving his quality for the Bucs offense. Godwin struggled slightly against the only other top 5 defensive teams the Bucs have played this year, the New England Patriots, only archiving 55 yards. It will be interesting to watch how Godwin will find creative solutions against the Bills’ defense to make big plays downfield.
Leonard Fournette has also been a huge asset to the Bucs offense. He has 152 carries this season resulting in 665 yards. Fournette averages 55 yards per game but will have a challenge ahead of him with the stacked rush defense of the Bills. The Bucs will need to focus on plays with intentional blocks to secure a hole for Forunette to take advantage.

Buffalo Bills vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Daily Fantasy Picks
This game will be a shootout between the two offenses of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Buffalo Bills. The competition could result in risky, unpredictable, and huge plays by both quarterbacks. Tom Brady rarely disappoints fantasy owners with an average of 22.8 points per game. He was able to drop 27.16 against another top 10 defense, the Dallas Cowboys, in Week 1 and has the opportunity to do it again. Josh Allen follows closely behind with 22.6 points per game. Both Chris Godwin and Stefon Diggs could be huge targets for the quarterbacks this week and might be a great addition to any fantasy team.
