Miami Dolphins vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Matchup Preview (10/10/21)
The battle of the Florida teams is going down this Sunday. The 1-3 Miami Dolphins will face the 3-1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Tampa. The Dolphins are coming off a 27-17 loss against the Indianapolis Colts while the Buccaneers are coming off a surprisingly close 19-17 win against the New England Patriots in quarterback Tom Brady’s return to New England. Dolphins quarterback Jacoby Brissett has played in the last three games since starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa went down with an injury early in a Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills. Brissett has struggled so far, only throwing two touchdowns. On the other side, Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has been having a great season with his ten touchdowns and two interceptions. This game may actually be pretty close since the Buccaneers have a lot of notably injured players.
Miami Dolphins vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Betting Odds
The Buccaneers come into this game as 10-point favorites. They currently are dealing with a lot of injuries and have a lot of impactful players listed as questionable or doubtful. If tight end Rob Gronkowski, running back Giovani Bernard, cornerback Carlton Davis, free safety Antoine Winfield Jr, linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul, and cornerback Jamel Dean were to all play, the Buccaneers would be in great shape. They would beat the Dolphins handily. I imagine some of these guys will end up playing, so the Buccaneers will still win but by less points. I do not see them covering the spread this week.
My Predictions: Buccaneers 24, Dolphins 17, Buccanneers do not cover, under 48 points

Miami Dolphins Analysis
The Miami Dolphins have struggled to start the season. They were not expected to be a great team, but they were hoping for second-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to develop and improve his game. Tagovailoa went down with an injury early in Week 2 and backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett has had to step in. In almost three full games, Brissett has thrown for 583 passing yards. He has struggled a lot with throwing touchdowns. He has only thrown for two of them. He may have an opportunity this week to play well against a very injured Buccaneers defense. If he does, the Dolphins may give the Buccaneers a run for their money.
The Dolphins have a pretty decent wide receiver core of DeVante Parker, Albert Wilson, and Jaylen Waddle. Albert Wilson has not been very impactful, but DeVante Parker and Jaylen Waddle have 442 combined receiving yards and two combined receiving touchdowns. Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki has also held his own with 184 receiving yards and one touchdown. Parker, Waddle, and Gesicki will need to get open more in the end zone this week, but Albert Wilson is the one who really has to step up. After not being targeted in Week 4, the Buccaneers will not expect him to do much. He has to take advantage of that assumption and shine.
The Dolphins running back duo of Malcolm Brown and Myles Gaskin have barely scored this season. While Gaskin leads all Dolphins running backs with 142 rushing yards, he has no touchdowns through four weeks. Brown has one rushing touchdown and 91 rushing yards. Brown has struggled to push the ball down the field, only averaging 3.6 yards per carry. Miles Gaskin has actually been productive pushing the ball, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. They will both need to find their way into the endzone if they want to help their team win this week.
The Dolphins currently have a bottom-half defense in the NFL. They give up a lot of points and struggle to create turnovers. They only had one fumble recovery and no interceptions against the Colts last week. It is imperative that this defense creates turnovers and gives their offense more chances to score.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Analysis
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers pulled out a much closer win than expected against the Patriots on Sunday Night Football. The Buccaneers were without tight end Rob Gronkowski and it proved to be a big issue. Without QB Tom Brady’s favorite target, he did not throw for a single touchdown. Brady was bailed out by safety Antoine Winfield Jr., who scored a defensive touchdown. Even with Brady’s mediocre play against the Patriots, he is still having himself a solid season. He is second in the NFL with 1,356 passing yards. He also has thrown for ten touchdowns. He will probably be without TE Rob Gronkowski again this week and will need to figure out how to hit his other tight ends Cameron Brate and O.J. Howard in the end zone.
The Buccaneers wide receiving core of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Antonio Brown has been very effective this season. They all have over 200 receiving yards. Their quarterback likes to spray the ball around the field, so they all get a lot of opportunities. None of these three receivers scored a touchdown last week. TE Rob Gronkowski will likely be out again this week, so these receivers need to figure out how to get in the end zone.
The Buccaneers running back duo of Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones II was an offensive bright spot against the Patriots last week. Fournette pushed the ball down the field and ended with 91 rushing yards and Jones II rushed for a touchdown. These two had been struggling before last week’s game, so the Buccaneers coaching staff should be happy to see them turning a corner.
The Buccaneers defense is their biggest concern right now. A lot of the defense’s starters are currently on the injury list. Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians better hope that most get healthy before Sunday. If they do not, the defense may be in for a long day.

Miami Dolphins vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Daily Fantasy Picks
Buccaneers tight end Cameron Brate has been very quiet this season. He only has 72 receiving yards and has not scored a touchdown. I expect that to change this week. TE Rob Gronkowski will probably miss another game this week which leaves a hole at tight end. I expect Brate to be targeted more and given more opportunities. I would also pick Dolphins wide receiver DeVante Parker for DFS this week. Parker had 77 receiving yards and one touchdown last week. He will be targeted a lot again in the absence of wide receivers Will Fuller V and Allen Hurns.
