Washington Football Team vs. Las Vegas Raiders Matchup Preview (12/5/21)
The unpredictable Las Vegas Raiders will be hosting the Washington Football Team this Sunday at the new Allegiant Stadium at 3:05 PM EST. The two teams are both ranked second in their division and could make for a great matchup in the NFL’s 13th week of the regular season. Last week on Thanksgiving, the Raiders pulled out an unexpected upset against the NFC East leaders, the Dallas Cowboys. The Washington Football team has been on an extraordinary, unforeseen three-game win streak that began with an unanticipated win against the Super Bowl reigning Champions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The erratic performances of both teams will leave this game result questionable and can result in another shocking game. The Raiders have the home-field advantage, which doesn’t seem that beneficial since they’re currently 3-3 at home. The Washington Football Team is 2-3 on the road and are hoping to increase that statistic in Las Vegas.
Washington Football Team vs. Las Vegas Raiders Betting Odds
Not many people predicted the upset of the Las Vegas Raiders against the Dallas Cowboys last week, and I’m sure that upset some sports betters. ESPN projected the Cowboys to have a 75% chance of victory, but the Raiders had other plans. The Washington Football Team has also shocked sports betters by overthrowing the Bucs 29-19 when they were only projected to have a 30% chance of winning. Going into this game, the Raiders are projected to win by 61.7%, leaving the Football Team with a mear 38% chance. However, as we have seen these past few weeks, these teams thrive from doubt and rise to the challenge against tough teams. This leaves this game very questionable and makes me wonder who will be walking away victorious.
Currently, DraftKings has the spread as Raiders -2.5 and Washington +2.5. The moneyline is set for the Raiders -135 and Washington +115. The Over/Under is looking at 49.5.
I predict this will be a close game that could lead to some unexpected plays and points being scored. Both quarterbacks have thrown over nine interceptions this season and have very similar touchdown stats (Carr 17, Heinicke 16). This makes me assume the game will rely on defensive plays to set one team apart from the other. LineUps places the Washington Football Team defense in 18th place due to their incredible rush defense. The Raiders are ranked at 30th because of their lack of ability to prevent touchdowns. However, injuries are swarming the Washington offense that could lead to devastating impacts on their offense. They’ll need their players to be healthy by Sunday to have a chance.
My Prediction: Raiders Win 28-24

Washington Football Team Analysis
The Washington Football Team has stunned fans this year due to their pattern of upsets and impressive gameplay. They are currently riding a three-game win streak from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Carolina Panthers, and the Seattle Seahawks. Even with a losing season record, Washington is making their name known and showing significant improvement throughout the season.
Their starting quarterback, Taylor Heinicke, has shown average stats this 2021 season. He has thrown for 2,613 yards and 16 touchdowns in his first 12 weeks. Heinicke has ten interceptions this year but seems to be lowering the consistency of them. In the first four weeks of the season, Heinicke was averaging two interceptions a game. However, in his last four games, he is only averaging 0.75 interceptions per game. He was able to avoid throwing any against his impressive game against the Bucs. Unfortunately, Heinicke may have trouble this week since he has five of his offensive teammates questionable. He will have to rely on backups which can result in some miscommunications and less than the desired efficiency.
Injuries have wiped out the Washington offense this week, leaving five crucial players questionable going into this weekend. The team’s top running back, Antonio Gibson, is on that list. Antonio Gibson has an explosive 712 yards on the season along with five touchdowns which lands him in the top 10 running backs in the league. Unfortunately, Gibson suffered a shin injury but had a limited practice on Wednesday. His absence could significantly impact the rush game of the team if he is not healthy to return.
Wide receiver Curtis Samuel, who is suffering from a groin injury, and tight end Logan Thomas, who is suffering from a hamstring injury, are also on the list of questionable athletes. Not only is the starting tight end questionable, but so is their second-string, Ricky Seals-Jones (hip injury). There is going to be a lot of dysfunction on the offensive side entering this game due to the lack of healthy players. Heinicke will have to be very creative with offensive maneuvers if they want to succeed against the Raiders.

Las Vegas Raiders Analysis
The Las Vegas Raiders are feeling hot after their unexpected win against the Dallas Cowboys last week. The Raiders are currently in a three-way tie for 2nd in the AFC West division with the Los Angeles Chargers and the Denver Broncos. All teams are only trailing the division leaders, the Kansas City Chiefs, by one game. Pulling out a win would be crucial for the Raiders if they want to keep their second-place standing or even eventually move up to first.
Derek Carr had his best throwing yardage last week since Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins. Carr threw for 373 yards against an unforgiving Dallas Cowboys defense. He proved himself to be a force to be taken seriously in the big upset. On the season, Carr has 3,414 yards and 17 throwing touchdowns. He has shocked many people by holding the lead for most yards thrown in the entire league. He is averaging around 310 yards per game which is a remarkable feat. Derek Carr will need to channel his skills to ensure a win against one of the best rush defenses in the league. The pressure will be on him to make accurate throws since the rush option may be limited.
Hunter Renfrow is still leading the Las Vegas team in rushing yards coming in at 658 yards this season. Renfrow is averaging almost 60 receiving yards per game and is averaging a notable 10.3 yards per reception. Renfrow will be a big target for Carr this game and will need to be focused to fully complete catches. Hunter Renfrow will also have to use his speed and agility to outrun and outsmart the Washington defense to secure a victory.
Team-leading running back Josh Jacobs will have to perform at his best this week to ensure extensive statistics. Jacobs leads the team with 420 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns so far this year. He will need the help of his offensive line to create large gaps and ask for extra time to attempt to get past the Washington rush defense. The only way to get around the defense is to go through them, which will require a significant amount of power and force that I’m not sure Josh Jacobs has.

Washington Football Team vs. Las Vegas Raiders Daily Fantasy Picks
This week in Fantasy Football could be crucial to many players since we are nearing the end of the season. If you have Taylor Heinicke as your quarterback, I might suggest finding a replacement. The Washington Football Team is missing crucial members of their offense which will make Heinicke more nervous about making plays. They are also missing their starting center and right guard, which could weaken the offensive line and give the struggling Raiders defense opportunities to improve their stats.
Out of the two teams, I would focus on playing Raiders players instead. Derek Carr has shown great improvement the past few weeks and has been averaging 17.3 points this season. He may be a risky quarterback to own, but he can get the job done.
Hunter Renfrow has the potential to be a great asset this week. I suspect he will be receiving the ball more often than usual to counteract the rush defense of Washington. He is projected at 13.8 points, but I can imagine he may boom this week if the coaching staff makes the decision to avoid rushing the ball.
