Cincinnati Bengals vs. Baltimore Ravens Matchup Preview (10/24/21)

The NFC North matchup this week between the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens pits the top two teams in the division against each other. The Ravens lead the division with a 5-1 record while the road team Bengals head to Baltimore at 4-2: 2-1 on the road. The Ravens have won five straight games since their Week 1 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in overtime. Through their five-game winning streak, Baltimore is averaging 28.6 points per game and allowing 20.5 points per game overall in 2021. Cincinnati comes into Baltimore on the heels of their victory over Detroit in Week 6 averaging 24.7 points per game.

After a disappointing overtime loss to the Green Bay Packers the previous week, it would’ve been easy for the Bengals to go into Detroit and lay an egg against the winless Lions, but instead won handily 34-11; easily covering the 3.5-point spread. The win shows this is a team that will be in contention for an AFC playoff spot. The passing attack led by Joe Burrow who is averaging 256.7 yards per game will absolutely challenge the Ravens pass defense which ranks 25th in the NFL allowing 277.3 yards per game. An interesting note, Cincinnati has the second ranked red zone offense, scoring a touchdown on 83.3% of their red zone possessions. Baltimore’s defense has allowed opponents to score nine touchdowns on 18 red zone possessions.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Baltimore Ravens Betting Odds

The Ravens have beaten their division rival, Bengals five straight games including winning both games last season by a combined score of 65-6. Baltimore’s offense ranks fourth in the NFL averaging 421.7 yards per game and has scored an average of 32.5 in their last two home games. Defensively, Cincinnati ranks eighth in the league allowing 331 yards per game. Baltimore is favored by 6.5 points; Cincinnati is 3-3 against the spread in 2021. At 9-0, Lamar Jackson is the only QB since the 1970 AFL/NFL merger with at least five starts without a loss in the month of October, it would be hard not trust him in this spot.

My Predictions: Ravens win 30-21 going with the over of 47 points for the game.

Cincinnati Bengals Analysis

Joe Burrow leads Cincinnati into Baltimore after throwing for 271 yards and three touchdowns in the win over the lowly Detroit Lions. In six games this season, Burrow looks as though he’s recovered fully from last year’s season ending torn ACL and MCL, throwing for 1,540 yards with 14 touchdowns. With his performance against Detroit, Burrow joined Dan Marino as the only second year QB in the Super Bowl era to throw for at least two touchdown passes in each of their team’s first six games of the season.

In his only game against the Ravens last season a 27-3 road loss, Burrow threw for 183 yards and an interception. The offensive line didn’t do the young signal caller any favors by allowing seven sacks in the loss. This season after allowing 10 sacks in the first two games of the season, the offensive line has steadied itself allowing six sacks in the last four weeks of the season.

Leading all rookies in receiving yards with 553, Rookie Ja’Marr Chase and has been targeted 41 times for 27 receptions this season. Joe Mixon is the Bengals leading rusher averaging 80 yards per game. In his career, Mixon has 19 games with over 100 yards from scrimmage. Overall, the Cincinnati rushing attack is averaging 106.2 yards per game.

Baltimore Ravens Analysis

Offensively, Baltimore is led by 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson. An amazing note on Jackson to start is through 52 career regular season games, he has thrown 53 touchdown passes with no interceptions in the red zone. In six games this season, Jackson has accounted for an incredible 2,078 yards (1,686 passing and 392 rushing) of total offense this season. He’s accounted for 11 touchdowns (9 passing and 2 rushing) in 2021, while averaging 346.3 passing yards per game. Additionally, with the Ravens win over the Chargers this past weekend, Lamar Jackson passed Dan Marino (34) for most wins by a QB under age 25 in NFL history. Baltimore Ravens offense is averaging 421.7 yards

Tight End Mark Andrews leads the Ravens in receptions with 34, while scoring three touchdowns. Marquise Brown had some problems with drops to begin the season, he has two overall, but has 32 receptions while leading Baltimore in receiving yards with 486. He also has 20 career receiving touchdowns in 36 career games.

Baltimore’s rushing game is averaging 155.2 yards per game. Running back Latavius Murray, T’Shon Williams and Devonta Freeman are averaging five yards per carry. Murray left the Chargers game early with an ankle injury and his status for the game on Sunday against the Bengals is questionable. With Le’Veon Bell adding a touchdown against the Chargers, only his third rushing touchdown in the last 18 games he has played, the rushing attack will continue help pace the Ravens.

On the defensive side, rookie speed rusher Odafe Oweh leads the team with three sacks. He also has three tackles for loss and eight quarterback hits in 2021. Linebacker Patrick Queen paces the Ravens defense with 25 solo tackles to go with three tackles for loss.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Baltimore Ravens Daily Fantasy Picks

The Baltimore defense is holding opponents to 82 yards rushing per game with that statistic, I would consider not playing Joe Mixon in this game. Instead, I’d look at having Ja’Marr Chase in your lineup. Chase is averaging 92.2 yards receiving per game and a fantastic 20.5 yards per reception.

Despite the Ravens dominance over the Bengals last season, Lamar Jackson did not put up overly impressive numbers throwing for 293 yards and rushing for 100 yards in the two victories. I’d keep that note in the back of your mind when choosing your fantasy lineup for the week.

Mark Andrews is one of my favorite players in the NFL, he’s a guy who simply knows how to get the job done. He is the first tight end in Ravens history with at least three touchdown receptions in their first four seasons. Being targeted 19 times the last two games, Andrews looks as though he will continue being the player, Lamar Jackson looks to when a play needs to be made.
