Los Angeles Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks Matchup Preview (10/7/21)

Two NFC West heavyweights will face each other this Thursday Night. The 3-1 Los Angeles Rams will face the division-rival 2-2 Seattle Seahawks in Seattle. Both of these teams are not in first place in the NFC West, but they are still both contenders in what may be the strong division in the NFC. The Rams are coming off a debilitating 37-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4, while the Seahawks evened up their record with a 28-21 win against the San Francisco 49ers. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford actually played pretty well. He threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns while throwing one interception. The Rams defense was the big issue in the game. They gave up two receiving touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. The defense just did not have it in Week 4. The Seahawks pulled out a close win in an imperative Week 4 game. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson did not throw for a lot of yards, but he threw two touchdowns and rushed for one touchdown. Seahawks running back Alex Collins also rushed for one touchdown in this game. This is a premier matchup this week.

Los Angeles Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks Betting Odds

These two teams are matched up pretty evenly. They both have good veterans quarterbacks and a lot of offensive weapons. The Rams come in as two-point favorites. This game will be a quarterback duel. I expect Seahawks QB Russell Wilson to have another efficient game and Rams QB Matthew Stafford to throw for a lot of yards. Even with the injury of running back Rashaad Penny, The Seahawks have a stronger offense with wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, but the Rams make it up for it with a top-5 defense with defensive end Aaron Donald and cornerback Jalen Ramsey. CB Jalen Ramsey will likely match up against DK Metcalf which always makes for a fun matchup. The Rams defense did not play well last week against the Arizona Cardinals, but I expect them to rebound this week. This game will definitely be close, but I expect the Rams to pull out the win.

My Predictions: Rams 28, Seahawks 24, Rams Cover, Under 54.5 Points.

Los Angeles Rams Analysis

The Los Angeles Rams have had a strong start to the season. They started the season 3-0 and suffered a 37-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4. Obviously, giving up 37 points to any team is not a good sign, but I expect that to just be a hiccup. New Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been a major upgrade from former Rams quarterback Jared Goff. Even in the Rams loss last week, Stafford held his own. He now has thrown for 1,222 yards with 11 touchdowns and two interceptions. He will be playing a middle of the pack Seahawks defense this week. He has to hit all his receivers this Thursday and trust his running backs.

The Rams have a really strong wide receiver core of Van Jefferson, Robert Woods, and Cooper Kupp. Cooper Kupp has by far been the most effective. Kupp has 431 receiving yards with five touchdowns. Wide receivers Van Jefferson and Robert Woods have also combined for four touchdowns. Kupp is the most popular receiver, but Jefferson and Woods can also hold their own against opposing defenses. They will need to all have big games against this mediocre Seahawks defense.

The Rams running back duo of Darrell Henderson Jr. and Sony Michel has been relatively quiet year. Henderson Jr. has 212 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns this season. He had a pretty big game with 89 rush yards in Week 4. Sony Michel has 126 rush yards and is yet to rush for a touchdown. They do not need to have huge games against the Seahawks. They just need to keep doing what they have been doing and push the ball down the field.

The Rams have a scary defense. Other than in Week 4 against the Cardinals, this Rams defense is very good at stifling offenses. The defense is led by DE Aaron Donald on the defensive line and CB Jalen Ramsey in the secondary. They already have 12 sacks but are going to face a tough opponent in the very squirrelly Russell Wilson this week. They will need to pressure Wilson and not let him escape the pocket and run for a lot of yards.

Seattle Seahawks Analysis

The Seattle Seahawks stepped up Week 4 against the 49ers. At risk of falling to a 1-3 record, they shut the door on the 49ers late in the fourth quarter. QB Russell Wilson helped lead his team to that win. The former minor league baseball player has 1,044 passing yards this season and has thrown for nine touchdowns. Most impressively, he has not thrown a single interception yet. He has a tough matchup this week against the Rams defense. He will need to throw for a lot of yards and spray the ball around the field if he has any desire to win this game.

The Seahawks have some impressive wide receivers in DK Metcalf an Tyler Lockett. Metcalf has 285 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Lockett leads all Seahawks receivers with 333 receiving yards and three touchdowns. To top it all off, wide receiver Freddie Swain has 125 receiving yards and two touchdowns. All they have to do is keep dominating on the field. If they do, they will do their part to help their team win.

The Seahawks running back duo of Chris Carson and Alex Collins has been pretty good so far. Chris Carson has 232 rushing yards with three rushing touchdowns while Alex Collins has 77 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. They will need to convert in the red zone and score two or three touchdowns to help their team this week.

This Seahawks defense has been nothing special this year. Gone are the days of having Cam Chancellor, Richard Sherman, and Bobby Wagner dominate opposing offenses together. They will have the tough matchup of stopping wide receivers Cooper Kupp, Van Jefferson, and Robert Woods. If the Seahawks want to win this week, they need to really limit the Rams scoring.

Los Angeles Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks Daily Fantasy Picks

WR Cooper Kupp did not score a touchdown last week. I expect that to change this week. He will be heavily used against this Seahawks defense and will score one to two touchdowns this week. He will be targeted a lot and given a lot of opportunitues. I recommend picking him up for DFS.
