New York Giants Analysis

New York Giants
The New York Giants are 5-10 this season and need this win to make the playoffs. The Giants have lost their last three games after having won against the Seattle Seahawks. The Giants suffered a tough loss last weekend to the Baltimore Ravens to continue their losing streak. They need this game to have a shot at the playoffs.

Daniel Jones had a tough week last week, as he was sacked 6 times in this game. Jones threw for 252 yards and one touchdown without turning the ball over in this game. He connected with Sterling Shepard nine times in this game for 77 yards and his only passing touchdown. The Dallas Cowboys have a somewhat challenging passing defense, ranking in the top ten for opponent completion percentage and passing yards per game. However, they do allow the second-most passing touchdowns per game.

The run game reached a stalemate for the Giants’ last game against the Ravens. As a team, the Giants ran the ball just 12 times for 54 yards and had zero touchdowns. Wayne Gallman led the crew with six carries for 27 yards in the game. The Giants will want to take advantage of the run game against the Cowboys next game. The Cowboys allow the most rushing yards per game in the NFL and 5.0 yards per attempt to their opponents.

The Giants’ defense has stepped up quite nicely in the back half of their season. Last game, however, they produced zero sacks, tackles for loss, and passes defended. Logan Ryan recovered the lone fumble for the Giants as their only turnover. Luckily, Dallas averages the fourth most giveaways per game with 1.7 giveaways per game. The Giants will want to take advantage of the Cowboys’ lackluster offense next weekend.

Dallas Cowboys Analysis

Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys are 6-9 this season and are hoping to sneak into the playoffs in this final week. The Cowboys are on a three-game win streak in the last three weeks of play. Last week, the Cowboys destroyed the Philadelphia Eagles in a final score of 37-17 at home. If they win this game, they can make the playoffs with a Washington loss.

Andy Dalton had quite the game against the Eagles’ tough secondary last week. Dalton threw for 377 yards, three touchdowns, and just one interception. He connected with Michael Gallup six times for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Amari Cooper also caught four passes for 121 yards, and Ceedee Lamb caught his other touchdown. The Giants’ secondary is no walk in the park, as they rank 16th in passing yards allowed per game and 11th in passing touchdowns per game. But, Andy Dalton and the Cowboys’ offense have averaged four touchdowns per game in their last three games.

Ezekiel Elliot caught a bit of fire last game, where he ran the ball 19 times for 105 yards without a touchdown. He averaged 5.5 yards per attempt in this one and really helped their team. CeeDee Lamb ran for the lone rushing touchdown in this one on a 19-yard run. The New York Giants thrive with defending the run, as they rank 11th for rushing yards and touchdowns per game while allowing just 4.1 yards per attempt to their opponents. Zeke and the Cowboys’ run game could have some trouble in this one.

The Cowboys’ defense came up big last game, allowing just 17 points to the Eagles. Anthony Brown and Trevon Diggs both went for interceptions too. This season, Dallas is one of just three teams to allow 30+ points per game to their opponents. They also allow nearly 400 yards per game too. In the last three games, however, they have allowed just 19 points per game. If they can contain the Giants’ run game and skill players, they could come away with the win.

Prediction

Spread: Dallas -3
Moneyline: Dallas -143
Over/Under: u44.5

The Dallas Cowboys have been rolling as a squad after having won their last three games. They have not beaten any winning teams in that span, but their performance on both sides of the ball has been phenomenal. This game will be a tough one to bet on, considering both teams are evenly matched and fighting for a playoff spot. I would take Dallas for the spread and the money line in this one.

Both of these team’s defenses have stepped up big time in the back half of the season. The New York Giants have only hit the over 3 times this entire season. I would take the under for this game.

Love/Hate Fantasy Picks

Love

Sterling Shepard had a breakout game last week against the Baltimore Ravens with a 9-77-1 line for 22.7 points in fantasy football. I would be tempted to say that his production before this game could attribute to a declining game next week, but I think he has potential for another great game. He led his team in targets, and there seems to be a chance that Golden Tate and Evan Engram will not play next weekend. This would put him under the radar of Daniel Jones more frequently in this one. The Cowboys have also allowed the second-most fantasy points per game to wide receivers this season.

Hate

Michael Gallup had the best game of his regression season last game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He had a 6-121-2 line for 30.1 fantasy points. That his fourth touchdown in the last four weeks of play. However, his catches and targets have varied in games, and he has had just 11 catches in the last three weeks for deep yards. The last time he played the Giants, he had just four catches for 73 yards. I would not anticipate him living up to that type of play, also considering that the Giants have allowed the 10th least amount of fantasy points per game to wide receivers this season.

Post
I have played football, baseball, hockey, golf, and basketball separately when I was young. Now I run cross country and track for DePaul University. My favorite part about sport is the mental strength. I am a big fan of all of the Chicago sports teams that don’t end in “Cubs.”
