New York Jets vs. Atlanta Falcons Matchup Preview (10/10/21)
The New York Jets will be playing the Atlanta Falcons in London, England this Sunday. The 1-3 Jets are coming off a surprising 27-24 overtime win against the Tennessee Titans, while the 1-3 Falcons are coming off a rough 34-30 loss against the Washington Football Team. Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson threw for an impressive 298 yards and two touchdowns while throwing one interception. Jets running back Michael Carter rushed for one touchdown. On the other side, Falcons veteran quarterback Matt Ryan played well throwing for 283 yards and four touchdowns. The Falcons defense could not do much in Week 4 giving up three receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. If this game was not being played in London, I would not recommend watching it.
New York Jets vs. Atlanta Falcons Betting Odds
These two teams have similar amounts of talent. The Atlanta Falcons have just a little bit more. They have a veteran quarterback in five-time Pro Bowler Matt Ryan and a stronger offensive line than the Jets. Those are the big differences. The oddsmakers have decided that the Falcons are 3.5-point favorites. Everyone will be watching to see if Jets QB Zach Wilson can play well again and exceed expectations. I do not expect him to. Nor do I expect Falcons QB Matt Ryan to. However, I do expect Matt Ryan to throw to more of his weapons than Wilson. I expect this to be a low-scoring game with very little action.

New York Jets Analysis
The New York Jets are riding a high right now. After being 0-3, they pulled out their first win in overtime against the Tennessee Titans. QB Zach Wilson played really well after having a difficult start to the season. The former BYU quarterback now has 925 passing yards and has thrown for four touchdowns. He also has an alarming eight interceptions. His offensive line has not been very good at protecting him. Wilson was sacked five times in Week 3. He will need to ride the momentum from Week 4’s win into this week if he wants any chance of winning and improving his team’s record to a semi-respectable 2-3.
The Jets have a difficult wide receiver situation this week; They will be without WR Elijah Moore. Moore is not their impactful wide receiver, but his injury forces wide receivers Jamison Crowder and Corey Davis to step up more. Corey Davis has had a pretty good season after last week’s game. He has 257 receiving yards and three touchdowns so far. Both Davis and Moore will need to get open a lot to help their quarterback win this game.
The Jets running back duo of Ty Johnson and Michael Carter has not been very impactful this year. Michael Carter has 127 rushing yards and has rushed for one touchdown while Ty Johnson has 83 rushing yards and has not rushed for a touchdown yet. Their jobs are made difficult by a weak offensive line, but they still have to improve upon their game if they want their team to win.
The Jets defense has actually rapidly improved since the beginning of the season. They had seven sacks and 35 pressures against the Titans. This defense is in a particularly difficult situation. They have an offense with a very low time of possession (TOI). Since the offense has a low TOI the defense has to play a lot more and which makes them more tired and more susceptible to mistakes. If they maintain their high level of play, that should give their team a really good chance to win.

Atlanta Falcons Analysis
Like the New York Jets, the Atlanta Falcons have not had the best start to the season. They are now 1-3 after suffering a close loss against Washington. QB Matt Ryan played well, but his defense gave up a lot of points. Ryan has thrown for 990 yards this season and eight touchdowns. He has also thrown only three interceptions. If he keeps on trusting his arm and trusting his teammates, the Falcons should be a hard team for the Jets to beat.
The Falcons lost seven-time Pro Bowler Julio Jones last season. That created a huge gap and turned the Falcons wide receiving core into a one-man show this year. That one man is WR Calvin Ridley. Ridley has 255 receiving yards and one touchdown. Ridley has had tight end Kyle Pitts help him with 189 receiving yards this season, but the next closest receiver to him is Olamide Zaccheaus. Zaccheaus has 69 receiving yards and one touchdown. He needs to show up against the Jets and take some of the burdens off Ridley’s shoulder if he wants to get the W.
The Falcons running back duo of Mike Davis and specifically Cordarrelle Patterson was really impressive against Washington in Week 4 but in an unexpected way. Patterson and Davis combined for four receiving touchdowns. Yes, you heard me right… four receiving touchdowns. If they can keep on getting open in the end zone, they will give their team a really good chance to win.
The Falcons defense can be described by one word: problematic. They gave up four touchdowns to Washington last Sunday. The defense was the reason the Falcons lost. They had one sack and zero turnovers. They need to get more turnovers to give their offense more chances. If they can create a few turnovers against the Jets, the offense should be in good hands.

New York Jets vs. Atlanta Falcons Daily Fantasy Picks
Atlanta Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo is one of the best in the NFL. Koo was 37-39 in field goal attempts last year and is a perfect 5-5 this year. He has not had a lot of opportunities to kick field goals this year, but he will this Sunday. Falcons QB Matt Ryan will be able to push the ball down the field more easily this week against a weaker Jets offense. That will set Koo up with more field goal opportunities. I recommend picking him up for DFS.
