Top Pitchers
Mike Clevinger ($9,900) vs Tigers– Indians SP Mike Clevinger has missed a lot of this season but over his last two starts he has pitched extremely well only allowing a total of 1 ER with 15 strikeouts. We have seen him perform well before his injury in April and it looks like he is starting to return to that level. He will be going up against a below average Tigers lineup today so at a sub $10,000 price I am comfortable rostering Clevinger while he is in this groove.
Eduardo Rodriguez ($9,500) vs Blue Jays– Rodriguez has been excellent over his last two starts as well posting a 1.50 ERA with 14 Ks and only 3 BBs. He has had some blowup starts this season but for the most part he has limited them as of late. He is also coming off of his best performance of the season throwing 7 innings with 10 Ks and only allowing 1 run vs an excellent Dodgers team. I expect him to roll that success over tonight vs the Blue Jays in an AL East divisional matchup.
Top Hitters
Luke Voit ($4,300) vs Rays– Luke Voit is probably licking his chops with the opportunity to go up against Rays SP Yonny Chirinos. In Voit’s career he is hitting .571 in 9 career PAs vs the right handed pitcher. Voit is looking to get back on track after recently returning from the IL so this should be a perfect time for him. He was one of the best hitters on the Yankees earlier in the year so getting him before his price rises is a go for me.
Adam Jones ($4,200) vs Rangers– Adam Jones has been churning along for the Diamondbacks this season not doing anything special but he has been a reliable option in the middle of the lineup. He went 2/4 in the Dbacks last game and will be up against Rangers SP Jesse Chavez, who he has played well against in the past. In 14 career ABs vs Chavez Jones is hitting .429 with a double and a home run. At $4,200 in hitter friendly Rangers ballpark I am confident Jones can get something going.
Avisail Garcia ($4,000) vs Yankees– Garcia is one of the better “middle tier” players in my opinion, every time you look he is hitting for average and he does enough for his team with 45 RBI’s so far this season. He comes into tonight’s game with 5 hits in the last 3 games and has hit very good overall even before the all-star break. At only $4,000 I think Garcia is a great high floor option tonight if that is something you are looking for to anchor your lineup.
Justin Upton ($3,500) vs Astros– Upton is still underpriced in my opinion, of course he isn’t the hitter he used to be but he is still a valuable option hitting in the middle of a lineup behind Mike Trout. He comes into tonight’s game with 4 runs scored and 1 SB in the last two games and he also has done pretty well vs tonight’s Astros SP Gerrit Cole. In 20 career PAs he is hitting .316 with a home run against the all-star righty. At this price I think there is no going wrong here if you are looking to finish off your lineup with a very solid low priced option.
