Top Pitchers
Trevor Bauer ($9,900) vs Reds– Bauer is in the middle of a losing streak but he is still going deep into games and is striking out a healthy amount of batters. He is already over 100 Ks this season and he has shown some signs of turning it around after a rough start. In his last 4 games he has thrown 119,111,109, and 123 pitches so he can easily get a boost in points because he will get so deep into games. Cincy is also a bottom half of the league offensive club so I have no issues rostering Bauer here as his price continues to drop.
John Means ($7,100) vs Blue Jays– Not many people know who John Means is but he has pitched pretty well for the Orioles as of late. In his last 2 starts Means owns a 1.50 ERA and has held opponents to a .167 batting average. He will be up against the Blue Jays tonight who rank 27th in the MLB in runs scored this season and have really struggled getting anything going as of late. The Orioles aren’t anything special themselves but on the pitching side I think Means can bring some value at only $7,100.
Top Hitters
Howie Kendrick ($5,300) vs White Sox– Despite his age Howie Kendrick has been one of the best hitters for average in baseball this season. He has also gotten on base in 9 of his last 11 games coming into tonight. His average for the season is .333, and against White Sox starter Manny Banuelos who has allowed 27 ERs in his last 5 starts I have no problems paying this price for Kendrick.
Marcus Semien ($4,100) vs Rays– Marcus Semien has continued his hot streak hitting at the top of the A’s lineup. Coming into tonight’s game he has 15 hits in his last 8 games with 2 HRs and 9 RBI’s. Semien was excellent at the start of the year then cooled off but it looks like he is back and he has done nothing but produce for Oakland. I feel like Semien is a steal tonight at this price no matter the pitcher just because his recent play.
Kyle Seager ($3,900) vs Twins– Seager has missed a lot of time this season but he has homered in his last 2 games and in 3 of his last 5. He will be going up against lefty Martin Perez tonight whom he is hitting .327 with 4 HRs against in 52 career ABs. I would usually shy away from the lefty-lefty matchup but given his history I am willing to give him a chance especially at a sub $4,000 price tag. Seager is an all or nothing home run guy in my opinion and his matchup history paired with solid play as of late are why he will be on my roster tonight.
Marwin Gonzalez ($3,700) vs Mariners– Marwin Gonzalez has been up and down this year but he has had amazing success against Mariners SP Mike Leake mostly from Marwin’s time in Houston. In 16 career PAs he is hitting a staggering .571 against the veteran with a HR. Not only is his 3B/OF eligibility valuable but his price is also very nice in my opinion. Leake rebounded in his last start but overall this season he has still allowed a lot of hits and baserunners. If you are looking to fill out your OF’s take a long look at Gonzalez.
