Top Pitchers

Joey Lucchesi ($9,600) vs Giants– In Lucchesi’s last start he was blitzed for 4 runs in the first inning but settled down and was able to throw 5 innings only allowing 4 hits with 5 K’s against the Nationals. If we ignore that inning he has pitched like a top end pitcher for the past month. He will get to go up against a struggling Giants team tonight and with the way he has been pitching his $9,600 price tag doesn’t feel like that much to pay on a weak pitching day. He has scored 20+ FPTS in 3 of his last 4 starts and he has seen a nice increase in K’s over his last handful of starts.

Merrill Kelly ($8,000) vs Phillies– Merrill Kelly was struggling for a little while but it looks like he has gotten his stuff under control. In his last 3 starts Kelly owns a 2.53 ERA and in his last two starts he has gone 7 and 7.2 innings respectively. I also like his 18:3 K:BB ratio in those 3 starts. The Phillies are a tough matchup but with the way he is pitching I think he has value at this price point. Sure, he probably won’t throw a shutout tonight but if he can keep it under control like he has been and get deep into games like he has been Kelly will have value here.

Top Hitters

Alex Gordon ($4,800) vs Tigers– Alex Gordon has had a bit of a career resurgence offensively this season after a couple of years where he wasn’t getting it done at the plate. He is hitting around .280 this season and will be up against a familiar face in Daniel Norris tonight on the Tigers. In 16 career PAs vs Norris, Gordon is hitting .429 with two 2Bs and 2 BBs. Norris hasn’t given up less than 6 hits in his last 6 starts including his last start where he allowed 11 hits in only 5.2 innings. With Norris struggling and Gordon having seen him well over the years rostering Gordon at this price is a non-issue for me.

Whit Merrifield ($4,800) vs Tigers– Royals speedy 2B/OF Whit Merrfield comes into tonight’s game with a hit in 5 of his last 6 games and two of those games he had multiple hits. He hasn’t been stealing bases at the clip that we would like as fantasy owners but last night he was able to swipe 1 bag. Much like Alex Gordon, Whit has seen Daniel Norris well hitting .375 off him in 16 ABs with 3 home runs. It’s hard not to see Daniel Norris’s struggles which is why I like both these Royals hitters tonight.

Domingo Santana ($4,200) vs Twins– Domingo Santana has been hitting the ball really well as of late for the Mariners. He is 13 for his last 32 with 3 HRs and 6 RBI’s over the course of a 7 game hitting streak. He has been producing with almost 50 RBI’s on the year at he comes in at a really cheap price tonight vs Twins ace Jose Berrios. At $4,200 I think Domingo Santana is an absolute steal even against Berrios.

Hanser Alberto ($3,800) vs Blue Jays– Orioles INF Hanser Alberto hasn’t been producing much in terms of RBI’s or HRs but he has been racking up the hits in bunches. He has 5 multi-hit games in 5 of his last 7 games for Baltimore. He will be going up against Blue Jays SP Edwin Jackson tonight who has allowed no less than 6 hits in any start this season so Alberto should have plenty of opportunity to continue his hot hitting. Don’t expect to get some run production from Alberto but he should be able to get on base and hit value at this very low $3,800 price tag.
