Top Pitchers
Charlie Morton ($11,300) vs Athletics– Charlie Morton comes into tonight’s start vs the A’s as the highest priced pitcher in tonight’s pretty weak offering. Morton, however, has been pretty good this year in fantasy mostly due to his ability to strike out batters. He is averaging 8.3 Ks in his last 3 starts and has pretty much been around there all season. He stumbled in his last start allowed 4 ER vs the Angels but before that he had 2 straight scoreless 7 inning outings. Morton is a high ceiling starter and at this price we are going to need that type of outing from him. I like his matchup tonight against the A’s.
Dylan Bundy ($7,600) vs Mariners– Another pitcher who tends to strikeout a lot of batters is Orioles SP Dylan Bundy. Bundy had 8 Ks in his last start and has now gone 8 straight starts in a row without allowing more 3 earned runs. I’m not expecting a shutout but this string of solid outings make me feel comfortable about him going up against a Mariners team who just lost their biggest power bat in Edwin Encarnacion. Bundy has scored 17+ FPTS in 3 of his last 4 outings and I don’t expect him to slow down against this Mariners team.
Top Hitters
Anthony Rendon ($5,500) vs Phillies– Rendon has been one of the best hitters in baseball this season and has gotten on base at an excellent rate, over 40% of the time. Tonight he will be going up against Nick Pivetta who Rendon has been superb against in his career. In 15 ABs Rendon is hitting .533 with 3 HRs against the right hander. Rendon is too good of a hitter to not take advantage of this matchup and based strictly off this I am willing to lay the $5,500 in salary tonight.
Whit Merrifield ($4,900) vs Twins– Quietly Whit Merrifield continues to be one of the better guys with the bat in all of baseball. He comes into tonight’s matchup with at least 1 hit in 12 of his last 14 games and has been knocking some runs in, 10 RBI’s in his last 7 games. We usually don’t see this from Whit but that is only a plus. On top of all that he is hitting .539 with 3 HRs in 14 career PAs vs tonight’s Twins SP Jake Odorizzi. Whit has just been too good and possess too many tools to not roster him at under $5,000 tonight.
Tommy Pham ($4,000) vs Athletics– Pham has really got it going with the bat lately with 6 multi-hit games in his last 8 games. This has translated to 8 RBI’s and he has been one of the highest floor fantasy players. In the last 9 games he has only scored less than 9 FPTS one time. At only $4,000 that high of a floor is a no brainer for me to have in my lineup tonight against the Athletics on the road.
Kike Hernandez ($3,400) vs Giants– Hernandez will likely be in the lineup tonight because of his amazing history vs Giants SP Madison Bumgarner. Traditionally Hernandez is good against lefties but he has been really good vs MadBum. In 48 career ABs Kike is hitting .500 with 4 HRs and 6 2Bs. If you are looking to take a flyer on a player that is cheap Hernandez is definitely your guy in my opinion.
