Top Pitchers
Jon Gray ($9,800) vs Giants– Jon Gray has been up and down this year but he has been better away from hitter friendly Coors Field. Tonight he will be in San Francisco to take on the Giants, a team he threw 6.2 innings only allowing 1 ER against in a start earlier this season. Gray is a big strikeout guy with 7+ Ks in 3 of his last 4 starts coming into tonight. The Giants offense as a whole isn’t producing many runs so this feels like a great spot to get some use out of Jon Gray before he has to go back and pitch at Coors.
Adam Plutko ($6,900) vs Royals– Going deep down the pitchers list we have Adam Plutko who comes in priced at only $6,900. He has been consistent allowing exactly 2 ER in each of his last 3 starts and gets some decent K numbers for a guy in this price range. Overall the pitching tonight is pretty shaky and Plutko has shown at times he can put up a really solid fantasy performance. He has scored 19+ FPTS in 2 of his last 3 starts coming into tonight. He has yet to face the Royals this season but I’m still willing to take a shot so I can roster a big named bat or two.
Top Hitters
Cody Bellinger ($5,700) vs Diamondbacks– Bellinger has slowed from his crazy pace he was at earlier in the year but that was to be expected. He is still one of the best hitters in baseball and he will be going up against a familiar face in the form of Diamondbacks pitcher Zack Greinke. In 25 career ABs vs Greinke he is hitting .400 with 3 HRs and 2 2Bs. The price is obviously high tonight but in this matchup vs a pitcher coming off of a bad start I think it could still be worth it.
Scott Kingery ($4,800) vs Mets– Kingery hasn’t been knocking in very many runs but he has been getting on base at an impressive rate. Coming into tonight’s game he has gotten on base in 5 of his last 6 games and has been pretty good vs lefties. Against tonight’s Mets SP Steven Matz, Kingery has been great in limited ABs going 4/8 with 2 home runs. Based off his recent play the price is a bit high but considering the circumstances and the limited slate I am willing to pay.
Jason Kipnis ($4,000) vs Royals– Kipnis is no longer the hitter we saw a couple years ago but over the last week or so he has been hitting like it. He comes into tonight’s game 10 for his last 20 with 2 HRs and 10 RBI’s over the course of 6 games. He will be going up against Royals SP Mitch Keller who allowed 9 hits and 7 ER in his last start so that also plays in Kipnis’ favor. Getting a guy hitting it this well at this price feels like a no brainer in my opinion especially at the 2B position.
Chris Taylor ($3,800) vs Diamondbacks– Chris Taylor has done pretty well with his more consistent playing time due to the injuries on the Dodgers. He has had 4 multi-hit games in his last 6 starts not including last night when he went ½ with a 3 run home run. Taylor could always hit but I think the lack of consistent playing time was holding him back and that sure has changed now. At only $3,800 I like Taylor at either the SS or OF spot.
