Top Pitchers
Gerrit Cole ($11,500) vs Pirates– Gerrit Cole has been one of the best high strikeout pitchers in all of baseball this season. He has also limited the damage not allowing more than 2 ER in each of his last 5 starts, also having 8+ Ks in 4 of those 5 games. Cole will be going up against his former team tonight who have struggled with the bats a bit. Overall there isn’t much to be said about Cole other than he can really score a lot of points if he has his strikeout pitch going and that seems to be most of the time. I have no issues laying the $11,500 tonight on him.
Logan Allen ($8,100) vs Orioles– Allen dazzled in his MLB debut throwing 7 scoreless innings and striking out 5 batters vs a pretty tough Brewers lineup. In his second start he will be going up against the Orioles whose lineup is obviously not as high powered as the Brewers. At one time Allen was a top pitching prospect and clearly the talent is still present. There will be some rough steps in every rookie’s first couple games so I’m not going in expecting another shutout but with the way he looked in start #1 I have no reason not to think he can continue the success tonight.
Top Hitters
Jeff McNeil ($4,800) vs Phillies– McNeil has been a hitting machine for the Mets this season. He is hitting over .330 on the year and has 5 multi-hit games in his last 6 starts for the club. He won’t offer you power but he is a really high floor guy due to his run scoring ability and pure hitting. He has also had success vs Phillies SP Jake Arrieta going 7/13 with a home run against him in his career. Someone hitting this well at under $5,000 feels like a steal to me tonight.
Chris Taylor ($4,000) vs Diamondbacks– Taylor came through for us last night with another hit and RBI and now has a hit in 6 of the last 7 contests. He is also sporting an impressive RBI streak of sorts with at least 1 in 7 of his last 8 starts. It’s amazing to me how cheap Taylor still is on DK so until he goes above $4,500 I’m going to roster him every night if he continues to hit the ball well.
Rowdy Tellez ($3,600) vs Yankees– Rowdy has had his struggles this year but he has shown to be very streaky at the plate. He comes into tonight’s contest with 5 hits in his last 3 games with 5 R 1 HR and 3 RBI’s. He is a power threat every time he comes to bat so getting him at this $3,600 price holds a lot of value because of his big boom potential. If you want to roster studs like Gerrit Cole you are going to have to reach in places and I think Rowdy can give a pretty good return on investment tonight with the Yankee stadium short porch.
Starlin Castro ($2,700) vs Nationals– We have all pretty much forgot about Starlin Castro as he sits in Miami losing game after game but at points this year he has been a valuable option. He comes in at a dirt cheap price of only $2,700 with hits in 10 of his last 11 games. Obviously he will be going up against Max Scherzer tonight but that hasn’t fazed him in his career as he has hit .318 against the ace in 22 career ABs. At this price this is pretty much a no brainer to me with the way Castro has been hitting.
