Top Pitchers
Yu Darvish ($9,200) vs Giants– Did Darvish finally figure it out??? Over his last two starts Darvish has only allowed a total of 4 hits 1 BB and 0 ERs with 15 strikeouts. He has the elite stuff but over the last couple of seasons we haven’t seen him put it all together. He will be going up against a Giants team that has played well but doesn’t have the talent on offense where you would be entirely nervous about this pick. With the way Darvish has pitched I can’t look at him at this price and not roster him.
Merrill Kelly ($7,300) vs Orioles– Kelly has been excellent for the Diamondbacks this season which is welcoming news for fans after he didn’t start the season off particularly well. Over his last two starts Kelly owns a 1.50 ERA and a .182 BAA over 12 innings. He will be up against the Orioles who have been up and down on offense but like the Giants you wouldn’t think of them as an elite offensive team. Kelly doesn’t strikeout a lot of hitters but he does enough to make him very intriguing at $7,300 tonight. I think this price is too low and there is a lot of value to be had here tonight from Merrill Kelly.
Top Hitters
Whit Merrifield ($5,000) vs Braves– Year in and year out Whit Merrifield just hits. He comes into tonight’s game with at least 1 hit in 13 of his last 15 games and is a constant threat on the base path. He has been also very good producing runs this year on a lackluster Royals team with 51 RBI’s. Whit has seen tonight’s Braves SP Dallas Keuchel very well over his career posting a career average of .556 with a 2B in 10 PAs. Whit is too good of a hitter to ignore the success vs the SP while he is hitting it very well in general, so I have no issues laying the $5,000 in salary tonight.
Charlie Blackmon ($4,900) vs Nationals– Blackmon is coming off of a 4/5 game where it looks like he may have broken out of a mini slump that he was in for a stretch. He hit a home run in that game and scored 3 runs. Hitting at the top of this potent Rockies offense allows for some easy points in that regard. Tonight against Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg, Blackmon is hitting a healthy .412 with 4 doubles and a home run over the course of 17 at-bats. He may not hit for that much power away from Coors Field but he is still able to knock it around to all fields and score runs.
Eric Sogard ($4,200) vs Indians– Sogard has been on a bit of a hot streak heading into tonight’s game with a hit in 9 of his last 10 games. He has also scored a 7 runs during this hot streak. Sogard won’t give you power or a lot of production but he can flat out hit and his .300+ average speaks for itself. The Blue Jays lineup also seems to be playing better by knocking him in so against Trevor Bauer who has shown he is “gettable” this season I think Sogard has a good shot of putting together a nice night.
Marwin Gonzalez ($3,500) vs Yankees– For the 2nd night in a row I like Minnesota Twins utility man Marwin Gonzalez. He didn’t do anything for us last night but I’m hoping that will change tonight vs Yankees SP Domingo German. He is 4/9 in his career vs German besides last night Gonzalez had been hitting the ball very well in the middle of the Twins lineup. His price is only $3,500 tonight so if you need a cheap option for save some salary I think the stars are aligning for Marwin to have a solid night tonight vs the Yankees.
