Top Pitchers
Jose Berrios ($10,600) vs White Sox– Berrios hasn’t been exceptionally sharp recently but he has put together some solid starts and in a weak pitching slate tonight that is something that we are going to need. In his last start vs the White Sox he pitched well going 7.1 innings allowing 3 ER while striking out 5. The White Sox don’t have the most potent lineup and Berrios is coming off a scoreless start vs the A’s. With the way he has been pitching you wouldn’t expect to have to pay this kind of premium but with the lack of available pitching and games tonight I think he has enough upside to make him worth it.
Brett Anderson ($7,900) vs Rangers– Brett Anderson has put a nice string of quality starts together giving up less than 3 ER and has gone more than 6 innings in each of his last 4 starts. He isn’t a big strikeout guy, which is why his price is low tonight, but against a Rangers team that is slumping I think he still offers a lot. He pitches to contact and tonight I think that should be able to work out and he has been able to limit damage. At only $7,900 in this slate I see no issues taking a shot with the veteran left hander.
Top Hitters
J.D. Martinez ($4,500) vs Yankees– Martinez hasn’t been having his best year but he is still a very capable bat in an excellent Red Sox lineup. He comes into tonight’s game with 4 multi-hit games in his last 5 starts and has had some success vs tonight’s Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka. In 20 career ABs vs him Martinez is hitting .450 with 3 homers and two doubles. That kind of success is key for a hitter and the fact that he comes in this cheap tonight is a surprise to me.
Max Kepler ($4,400) vs White Sox– Kepler has been a key piece of the Twins offense all season and in his last 4 games he has had 7 hits with 3 R 2 HR and 5 RBI’s. Like Martinez, Kepler has also had some success vs the opposing starting pitcher. Against Lucas Giolito, Kepler is hitting .500 in 11 career PAs and after an off day yesterday he should be fresh and ready to get some big hits for us tonight in Chicago.
Nick Castellanos ($4,000) vs Mariners– Castellanos has always been able to hit for a pretty solid average and after a mediocre start to the season he is getting back to his hitting ways. In the last 2 weeks he is hitting slightly under .300 and has been one of the best high floor type of options especially with his cheap price. He has at least 1 hit in 8 of his last 10 games so I’m banking on that to continue for him tonight.
Jurickson Profar ($3,900) vs Rangers– Profar will be up against his former team tonight and despite his very poor stats I think he could offer some value. Aside from a handful of high priced 2B the position tonight is very weak and despite not getting every day starts Profar has scored in 3 of his last 4 contests. He will be up against Ariel Jurado who has surrendered 15 hits and 10 ER in his last two starts combined so IF Profar can find his way into the lineup tonight I believe he will be able to give us some decent FPTS.
