Top Pitchers
Tanner Roark ($8,300) vs Pirates– Roark continues to be a solid middle tier pitcher in the major leagues despite him getting up there in age. He has only allowed 2 ERs in each of his last 2 starts and will be going up against a Pirates team that has struggled a lot since the all-star break and look like they may be going into tank mode. He won’t wow you with the K’s but he has hung around 5-6 per game and if he limits the damage like he has been he will be a valuable piece at this price.
Reynaldo Lopez ($7,700) vs Mets– Lopez pitched excellent again in his last starting going 8 innings allowing only 2 ERs with 10 Ks and 1 BB. He has now pitched 3 straight games allowing 2 ERs or less and he has gone an average of 7 innings in those starts. He will have another opportunity to keep this going against the Mets tonight who own a mediocre offense. Lopez has gotten into these streaks before and if I have learned anything it’s that you have to ride them until they come to an abrupt end, and I don’t think that will be tonight at home.
Top Hitters
Justin Turner ($5,400) vs Rockies– Jon Gray practically shut down the entire Dodgers offense last night but that isn’t going to deter me tonight in another Coors Field game. Justin Turner has seen Rockies SP Kyle Freeland even better than he did Jon Gray in his career. In 24 career PAs Turner is hitting .522 with three 2Bs and 1 triple. Turner is an elite hitter and especially in this environment I don’t expect him to be held down for long.
Jose Ramirez ($4,300) vs Astros– Ramirez started the season off terribly slow but he has since turned it around in a big way. Coming into tonight’s game he has 5 R 4 HR and 8 RBIs in his last 4 games and tonight would make it 5 straight with a home run. He will be up against ace Justin Verlander tonight but that hasn’t held him back before, .393 three 2Bs 2 HRs and 6 BBs in 28 career ABs vs the righty. Given what he has done and the caliber of hitter Ramirez is I feel like this price is pretty cheap.
Nomar Mazara ($4,200) vs Mariners– Like Ramirez, Nomar Mazara’s bat has started to get hot with his 9 hits 6 R 2 HR and 4 RBI’s in the last 5 starts for the left handed bat. He has shown power in the past but it isn’t his main thing because he has gap to gap power. Tonight he will be up against Mariners SP Mike Leake who Mazara is hitting .421 with three 2Bs and 1 HR against in 21 career PAs. His price is at the highest we have seen in a while but we may finally be seeing the turnaround with his bat we have been waiting for.
Alex Gordon ($4,000) vs Blue Jays– Alex Gordon has had a bit of a revival with his bat recently posting a .280+ average and 60 RBI’s coming into tonight’s game. The power won’t be there but his ability to knock guys in has been extremely good this season compared to previous. He will be up against rookie Sean Reid-Foley who is being called up to spot start and he has had mixed results thus far. Gordon has been getting on base and hitting enough to make him worth a shot at $4,000 tonight at home against Toronto.
