Top Pitchers
Jack Flaherty ($8,600) vs Cubs–Flaherty has had some rough patches this season but it looks like he has finally turned it around and he has been pretty dominant in his last 4 starts. In his last 29 innings Flaherty owns a 2.48 ERA and has held opposing batters to a .198 batting average with 37 Ks. He has also gone 6+ innings in 3 of the last 4 starts which means more points for us. While he is pitching this well and striking out this many guys getting him at a sub $9,000 price is an absolute steal in my opinion.
Asher Wojciechowski ($7,100) vs Blue Jays– The Orioles have had lots of guys who have had good runs as starting pitchers. He has been excellent in his last 3 starts posting a 2.29 ERA 0.66 WHIP and has held opposing batters to a .147 batting average. His 23:3 K:BB ratio has also been great. With his 15.8, 38.1, and 25.4 FPTS performances in the last 3 this price point against a Blue Jays lineup that is average at best makes this pick a no brainer for me even if he falls off slightly.
Top Hitters
Jose Altuve ($4,800) vs Indians– Jose Altuve is once again one of the best hitters in all of baseball but he hasn’t been hard much from this year due to his injuries. He comes into tonight’s game with at least 1 hit in 9 of his last 10 games and in 7 of those games he has had multiple hits, he has also reached base in all 10 of those games. He will be up against Danny Salazar who is making his first major league start of the year so I don’t think he will be at the top of his game and Altuve will take advantage.
Jonathan Villar ($4,600) vs Blue Jays– Villar has been red hot over the last week or so going 13 for his last 33 with 11 R 2 HR 5 RBI and 6 SB. His speed is a threat and the Orioles offense has surprisingly good as of late which has allowed him to rack up some easy points scoring runs. He won’t offer much power but his speed is a threat that you can’t find in many places especially from guys who are hitting at this high of an average as of late.
Paul Goldschmidt ($4,400) vs Cubs– Goldy hasn’t had his best season but he has really got it going as of late. He has 14 hits on his current 9 games hitting streak and in those games he has 7 HRs and 14 RBIs which is astounding. The power numbers have been off the charts and against Cubs SP Jon Lester he is hitting .500 with a HR in 14 career ABs. A guy this hot at this price is a steal.
Alex Verdugo ($3,600) vs Padres– Verdugo hasn’t been playing very day but he is coming off of a 4/4 night yesterday in Colorado and owns an almost .300 average on the season. If he is in the lineup tonight it will be a lefty vs lefty matchup but Verdugo has done well in this situation before. Against Padres SP Joey Lucchesi Verdugo has seen some success hitting .571 in 7 career PAs, it isn’t a lot but he seems to be able to see the ball well vs him. The Padres bullpen is also pretty weak, and has given up a lot of runs, so at $3,600 I am willing to take a shot on him at home tonight.
