Top Pitchers
Jeff Samardzija ($8,700) vs Nationals– Samardzija continues to be great for the Giants in the 2ndhalf. He comes into this one with a 2.65 ERA in his last 3 starts with only 4 walks and 18 Ks. He has also kept the hits limited with a sub 1.00 WHIP in 4 of his last 6 overall. That paired with his K’s is a good recipe for fantasy success and I think we are getting great value for him here with him priced as the 8thbest pitcher of the night. I think he is at least top 5.
Vince Velasquez ($7,800) vs Diamondbacks– Velasquez won’t be making any incredible plays in left field tonight for the Phillies. He will take the mound for the Phillies looking to build off his last two starts where he owns a 1.69 ERA with 15 Ks across 10.2 innings. The Ks have picked up for Velasquez lately with 22 over his last 3 starts so that will only boost his value here tonight. He has also put up double digit fantasy points in 3 straight contests so with that being said I think he can get something going vs a Diamondbacks lineup on the road.
Top Hitters
Justin Turner ($4,400) vs Cardinals– Turner hasn’t been hitting the best as of late but does have 3 hits in his last 2 starts with a HR and 2 RBI’s. I like him tonight because of his history against Michael Wacha, who has not been very good at all this season. Turner his hitting .417 against him in his career with a double and 2 BBs across 15 PAs. Turner’s price has dropped here so I think it is a good spot to jump back in on him.
A.J. Pollock ($3,900) vs Cardinals– Pollock missed a little time with groin tightness but he started yesterday and came up big with a homer run and multiple runs scored. He now has 5 hits in his last 3 starts with 6 R 2 HR and 2 RBIs. We know Pollock can hit but he has just missed a lot of time due to injury this year and needs to get his bearings back. It looks like he may start get going here so taking a chance on him at a sub $4,000 price is great value in my opinion.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ($3,900) vs Rays– Another player whose price will soon skyrocket is rookie Vladimir Guerrero Jr. who has been red hot for the Blue Jays. He started his career off slow but it has picked up in a big way. Since the all-star break the 3rdbaseman is hitting .361 with a .418 on base percentage. He also comes into tonight’s game with 3 hits in 3 of his last 4 games and multiple hits in 6 of his last 8. He is racking up hits and RBI’s in bunches. His ownership percentage should be pretty high tonight but with the way he is hitting it doesn’t matter.
Jose Abreu ($3,700) vs Tigers– For the #’s he has put up this season, 23 HRs and 76 RBIs, I feel like Abreu is very underpriced. He has at least a hit in 3 of his last 4 games with a home run and 3 RBIs. If you are looking to save some salary and get a guy with some huge upside with his production and power I think Jose Abreu is the only guy you need to look for in this range. He hasn’t hit the best recently but his most recent games have shown that it could be turning around.
