Top Pitchers
Jason Vargas ($8,000) vs Diamondbacks– Vargas didn’t earn a decision in his last start for the Phillies but he pitched well going 6.1 innings only allowing 2 ER and striking out 5 batters. He has been consistent all year and in this very small evening slate getting him this low feels like a steal. He hasn’t scored less than 15 FPTS in his last 4 starts and he hasn’t allowed that many runs during that time frame either. I don’t think that will change again and instead of going to a guy like Zac Gallen I think you could save some valuable salary going with Vargas tonight.
Trevor Williams ($7,600) vs Brewers– We had Trevor Williams in his last started a he pitched pretty well but didn’t rack up the K’s that we could hope for so he only ended up scoring 10 FPTS. However I don’t think he will be held down two outings in a row and I am still banking on him bringing out his 19+ FPTS stuff that he showed in the 2 starts prior to his last. He hasn’t faced the Brewers in a while due to his injury so they won’t know exactly what is coming and it looks like he has regained his form that he was in prior to his injury. $7,600 is a very fair price for him tonight at home vs the Brewers.
Top Hitters
Andrew Benintendi ($5,300) vs Royals– Benintendi has gotten hot for the Red Sox at the right time. He comes into tonight’s game with 11 hits in his last 13 games and in 7 of those games he has had multiple hits. He has raised his average over .285 now and he has 5 RBI’s in his last 3 games. He doesn’t have much history vs Royals SP Glenn Sparkman but he has been pretty good going 3/5 with 3 doubles and a walk in 6 career PAs. Even though his price is high it is well warranted tonight.
Jorge Soler ($4,200) vs Red Sox– Jorge Soler continues to quietly go under the radar in Kansas City this season. After two home runs last night Soler now has 31 on the year with 79 RBI’s and has been swinging a pretty hot bat as of late. He has 7 hits in his last 5 games and his power is something to always watch out for. He only has 4 ABs vs Eduardo Rodriguez in his career but he is hitting .500 against him and while he is hitting it this well I find it hard not to take a guy producing this much at only $4,200 in a small slate.
Alex Gordon ($3,700) vs Red Sox– We can’t hide the fact that Alex Gordon has not been hitting the ball well and his price shows it. He has gone 0 for in 5 of his last 6 games and he hasn’t recorded a RBI since July 23rd. Somehow I think he is still a good option tonight against Red Sox SP Eduardo Rodriguez, who has been struggling as of late. Rodriguez has given up 12 hits and 9 BBs in his last two starts and in Gordon’s career he is hitting .400 against the lefty. If there is ever a time to pick a guy that’s struggling I think it’s tonight.
Manuel Margot ($3,600) vs Mariners– Margot has really turned it around for the Padres in the second half. He owns the highest slugging percentage on his team since July 6thand he comes into tonight’s game with 3 R 2 HR and 3 RBI’s in his last 3 games. He isn’t a big power guy but his hitting and OBP have been outstanding lately. He also sees lefties extremely well hitting around .390 on the year against them in 60 ABs with an almost .500 OBP. You can’t deny those numbers and at this price he is a steal.
