Top Pitchers

Cole Hamels ($8,800) vs RedsHamels returned from a stint on the IL last week and was great vs the Brewers going 5 innings and striking out 6 batters without giving up a run. He had been excellent all year so this isn’t surprising and getting him before his price jumps even higher is my reasoning here. Cincy is a tough park to pitch in but given Hamels excellent control, 103:35 K:BB ratio this season, I don’t think he will have many issues. Despite his age Hamels is still an elite pitcher and in this slate I don’t think he is priced as one.

Dallas Keuchel ($8,000) vs MarlinsKeuchel hasn’t been as sharp as of late but he has still limited the damage and pitched pretty well. He is coming off of a start vs the Reds where he went 7 innings and only allowed 3 ER and at this price that is all we can ask for. He also went 7.1 innings in his last meeting vs Miami and with the news one of Miami’s best hitters, Miguel Rojas, has hit the IL so I like Keuchel’s chances even more against this pretty weak offensive team.

Top Hitters

Manny Machado ($4,400) vs RockiesMachado is 0 for his last 9 but before that he had been hitting it pretty well with 10 hits in the previous 6 games while producing and scoring runs in the middle of the Padres lineup. He has done pretty well vs tonight’s Rockies SP Jon Gray, .375 with 2 HRs in 16 career ABs. Knowing that Machado is an elite hitter with this kind of history vs a Rockies pitcher that has been really up and down I am willing to take my chances at only $4,400 tonight.

Jorge Soler ($4,200) vs TigersI’m back on Soler again tonight against the Tigers. Last night he did pretty well racking up 1 hit and a BB with a run scored. He didn’t hit the home run we were looking for but with the way Soler is playing it is good to see him be able to do some other things so he isn’t boom or bust. Tigers pitcher Matthew Boyd racks up a lot of K’s but overall he hasn’t been good in limiting runs and with Soler’s career .429 average against Boyd with 4 BBs I think he will reach his value for this price tonight.

Whit Merrifield ($4,100) vs TigersWhit is starting to get hot. He has always hit but he comes into tonight’s game with 2 hits in each of his last 3 games and he should have ample opportunity to rack up some hits vs Tigers SP Matthew Boyd. Like Soler, Whit Merrifield has hit it well vs Boyd hitting .441 with 5 doubles and 1 triple vs the lefty in 34 career ABs. Getting a proven .300 hitter with speed at only $4,100 is a major steal in my opinion.

Roberto Perez ($3,800) vs TwinsRoberto Perez isn’t the best catcher in the league but in certain spots I think he can offer some value in a very volatile position for DFS players. Perez has pop, 19 HRs this season, and he has shown it recently. Coming into tonight’s game Perez has 3 homers in his last 6 starts and has had proven success vs tonight’s Twins SP Kyle Gibson. In his career vs Gibson Perez is hitting .500 with two 2Bs in 11 career PAs. I think Roberto is a better option tonight than paying up for a guy like Vazquez.
