Top Pitchers
Anthony DeSclafani ($8,500) vs Phillies–DeSclafani is in one of those grooves like we saw earlier in the season. Coming into tonight’s game he owns a 1.00 ERA and a .190 BAA across his last 18 innings pitched with 16 Ks. You would probably like to see more strikeouts but that number is more than enough for me if he is shutting down opposing offenses. The Phillies lineup is good but in this limited day game slate I believe DeSclafani is a great middle tier option if you don’t want to pay a high price for mediocre pitching, in my opinion.
Adam Wainwright ($7,600) vs Giants– Other than a rough 5 ER performance in his 2ndto last start Wainwright has been pitching well for the Cardinals. Other than that start he has allowed less than 3 ER in 5 of his last 6 outings for St. Louis. Tonight he will be up against the Giants who will be playing back to back day games and will be traveling in from San Francisco for this one. If you can look past the inflated recent ERA I think given the circumstances and looking at the bigger picture of his recent form Wainwright offers some value in this spot today.
Top Hitters
Jorge Polanco ($4,800) vs Tigers– Polanco has been scorching hot for the Twins as of late racking up multiple hits in 5 straight games with 7 R 2 HR and 3 RBIs. The production won’t be sky high but he gets on base and with the Twins playing some good baseball he has been getting knocked in from the guys behind him in the lineup. Polanco has also had some excellent history vs Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann, .385 with a double in 14 career PAs. Polanco is just hitting it too well right now to not have him in your lineup.
Shin-Soo Choo ($4,100) vs Yankees– We know Choo gets on base but he has been even better vs today’s Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka. In 18 career PAs Choo owns a .500 OBP .438 AVG with a double against the Japanese righty. Another reason I like Choo this afternoon is because they will be playing this game at Yankee stadium where we can see some cheap shot homers to left which is the side he will be hitting form. Choo comes at a discount today because of his recent form but I think he breaks out in this one.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ($4,000) vs Braves– Guerrero Jr. has been a high floor guy recently getting on base in 10 of his last 11 games but only hitting 1 homer in those games. However he has still been producing runs at a good rate and offers some upside you can’t find anywhere in this price range. We know the power he possesses and how it can come up huge when you need it most. He will be up against Soroka for the Braves which is why I think his price has fallen slightly but he went 2/3 vs the rookie in their last meeting so I have no issues paying $4,000 for someone of his caliber and high floor/high ceiling potential.
Brandon Nimmo ($3,400) vs Nationals– Nimmo has spent a long while on the IL but he is expected to be back in the lineup for the Mets this afternoon against Nationals SP Joe Ross. In 9 career PAs vs Ross he is hitting .714 with a walk. The price is really low because people have forgotten about him but if he can get to the struggling Ross like he has in the past Nimmo can pay huge dividends for your fantasy lineup. There isn’t much to go off of because of the extended time on the IL but if you are looking for a flyer I would take a long look at Brandon Nimmo.
