Top Pitchers
Wade Miley ($8,200) vs Mariners– Wade Miley has been pitching very well as of late and against good competition. In 2 starts vs Boston and 1 vs the Cubs Miley owns a 2.50 ERA with 19 strikeouts. He will get an easier opponent in the Mariners tonight and I really like him because of his increased strikeout rate. In his last two starts he has 17 Ks and has only walked a total of 3 batters. Against Seattle, who seems to be in sell mode, Miley should be able to put forth another very solid performance and at this price he is a steal in my opinion.
Griffin Canning ($8,500) vs Athletics– Not many people know about Griffin Canning but he has been a great option for the Angels since getting the call to start earlier this season. He has only allowed 3 hits in each of his last 3 starts and only 2 total ERs in those starts. This will be his 2nd start in a row against Oakland but with the way he is pitching that doesn’t worry me too much. With his sub 1.00 WHIP on the season and good control with only 9 walks this season there is no reason to think Canning can’t put forth a quality outing tonight against an Oakland team that has lost 5 in a row.
Top Hitters
Austin Meadows ($5,700) vs Tigers– Austin Meadows has shown no signs of slowing down and seems to have a multi-hit game every night. He has reached base in 10 straight games and in those 10 games he has multiple hits in 7 of them. His price has soared to the elite level player levels and in my opinion he is playing much better than those guys so I think Meadows is a play even at this price because I can’t justify not putting him in my lineup due to his recent success.
Whit Merrifield ($4,700) vs Red Sox– Whit hasn’t gotten the stolen base numbers that we have seen in previous years but he continues to get on base game after game. I like him tonight against Eduardo Rodriguez and the Red Sox because in his career vs Rodriguez he is 5/6 with 4 singles and a double. Merrifield isn’t going to offer a lot in the power or run producing categories but when you roster him you know he has a very good opportunity to get on base and maybe steal a bag.
David Dahl ($4,300) vs Cubs– When David Dahl healthy he is one of the best hitters on the Rockies. Coming into tonight’s game he is hitting .464 with 7 R 2 HR and 5 RBI’s in his last 7 games. He has also seen success vs Cubs SP Kyle Hendricks in limited at-bats, 3/6 with 2 HRs. Although they aren’t playing in Colorado I still like some of the Colorado bats against Kyle Hendricks.
Daniel Murphy ($4,100) vs Cubs– Daniel Murphy has continued his hot hitting and he comes into this one on a 4 game hit streak with 8 RBI’s in those games. He is really in his groove with hits in 7 of the last 8 on top of his current hit streak. He, like Dahl, has had some pretty decent success vs Cubs SP Kyle Hendricks hitting .364 with 2 2Bs and 4 HRs in 24 plate appearances. In my opinion Murphy is really underpriced in this slot so I expect him to play well vs the red hot Rockies.
