DraftKings MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 8/28/19

Top Pitchers

Tanner Roark ($8,400) vs RoyalsI thought Roark was going to falter in his last start vs the Yankees but that didn’t happen, instead he struck out 7 batters over 6.1 innings and only allowed 2 ER. Since being traded Roark has been excellent for the A’s and is one of the most consistent DFS pitchers we have. He’s scored 21+ FPTS in 3 of his last 4 games and tonight against the Royals should be much easier than his matchup vs New York his last time out. His price is $100 less today than it was when he faced off vs the Yankees so I think there is some value here.

Sandy Alcantara ($6,800) vs RedsAlcantara has been up and down all season but lately he has been going deep into games for the Marlins and that has translated into good fantasy performances. His price is very reasonable at $6,800 tonight and for a guy that has gone 7+ innings in each of his last 3 starts and has only allowed a combined 5 ER I feel like that is some good value. He has also limited the hits with only 3 allowed in each of his last two starts. He won’t dazzle you with strikeouts but he has shown he is capable of getting the job done and back home in Miami I think we will see that tonight.

Top Hitters

Kole Calhoun ($4,300) vs RangersCalhoun is hitting sub .240 this season but he has been hitting the ball pretty decently over his last 4 starts with 6 hits 3 R 1 HR and 4 RBIs. I like him tonight because of his matchup vs Rangers SP Ariel Jurado. In 11 career PAs he is hitting .500 off the Texas starter with a home run. The PAs are limited but Jurado has struggled himself, 28 hits allowed and 16 ERs in his last 3 starts. At only $4,300 the Angels OF is worth a shot tonight at home.

Tommy Pham ($4,100) vs AstrosHis price has dropped a bit tonight with the matchup against Gerrit Cole but that hasn’t stopped Pham from hitting in the past. In 15 career ABs vs the star right hander Pham is hitting .533 with 2 doubles and a home run. He has also been hitting the ball very well in general with 8 hits in his last 5 games. That along with his 12 game on base streak is enough for me to have Pham in my lineup.

Nick Castellanos ($4,000) vs MetsSince joining the Cubs in a trade at the deadline Nick Castellanos has looked like a completely different player. Coming into tonight’s game he has at least 1 hit in 7 of his last 8 games and with him being in a high powered lineup he has been able to produce at a higher level, which we didn’t see in Detroit. I know he doesn’t offer any speed or amazing pop, but getting a guy of his caliber in this high powered lineup is a win in my opinion.

Jason Kipnis ($3,700) vs TigersWe have had Kipnis on our roster multiple times this season and tonight is one of those nights again. He is up against Tigers SP Jordan Zimmerman who Kipnis has destroyed in their past meetings, .615 with 3 doubles and 2 triples. While I wouldn’t bank on the triple tonight he has hit it hard and well off the veteran pitcher and after a home run and 2 R last night I am willing to take a shot with Kipnis as a low priced 2B option.
