Point Guard
Spencer Dinwiddie ($7,600) vs Cavaliers– The Nets have lost starting point guard Kyrie Irving for a lot of time lately but backup PG Spencer Dinwiddie has stepped up in a big way. In the last 5 games he is averaging 22.4 PPG 6.2 APG while playing upwards of 32 minutes per game. The minutes are there and with Caris LeVert hurt as well there is not a lot of offense in the Nets backcourt besides Dinwiddie. They will be up against a Cleveland defense that doesn’t seem to have any interest in stopping anybody. Dinwiddie is one of the best point guards off the bench and when he is forced into a starting role he can still put up some big numbers which is why I like him tonight vs the Cavs.
Shooting Guard
Malcolm Brogdon ($6,000) vs Grizzlies– After missing a week or so due to injury Malcolm Brogdon is expected to return to the lineup tonight for the Pacers. He has been a great addition this season to Indiana as he is averaging 19.2 PPG 8.2 APG and 4.8 RPG in 12 games played. He will be up against a Grizzlies team that has allowed the 9th most fantasy points to opposing guards this season. Brogdon comes in at a pretty decent price and even if he is on a minute restriction I believe he will be valuable here given the amount of different stat categories that he puts up numbers in.
Small Forward
Jimmy Butler ($7,700) vs Hornets– Jimmy Butler has quietly been stuffing the stat sheet in his short time with the Miami Heat. In the last 5 games Butler is averaging 17.8 PPG 6.8 APG and 5.0 RPG which is good for 41.3 FPPG. His shooting percentage isn’t very high and given what we have seen from him in the past this is something we can count on slowly coming up in the near future. The Heat have been playing some sort of position-less basketball and this has allowed Butler to have the ball more and distribute more than we have seen in the past. I like Butler to have a solid night vs a Hornets squad that has allowed a lot of fantasy points this season to SG/SFs.
Power Forward
Lauri Markkanen ($5,500) vs Trail Blazers– Lauri has been really disappointing this season for the Bulls only averaging 12.0 PPG and 7.5 RPG while shooting 28% from the field in his last 6 games. Those numbers are still good for 25 FPPG which is a good sign but we would like to see more from a guy we thought could be a star in the league. I like him tonight to get back on track vs a Blazers team that is really hurting in the front court and has allowed the most fantasy points to opposing big men this season. If there was ever a chance for Lauri to get it going I think it’ll be in this one at home after a huge comeback win vs the Hornets in their last game.
Center
Tristan Thompson ($6,800) vs Nets– Despite being on the lowly Cavaliers, Tristan Thompson has continued to be effective as their starting center. He is averaging 14.9 PPG and 9.9 RPG on the season and he is coming off a huge 25 PTS 9 REB game vs the Blazers. It is unclear at this point if Kevin Love will be playing and if he isn’t Thompson could be in line for a HUGE upgrade in the rebound department. Thompson is known for lots of things off the court but he is quietly still a very reliable fantasy big man if you need some consistency and a high floor.
Sleeper Play
Darius Garland ($4,300) vs Nets– Darius Garland has been up and down so far in his rookie season and that is to be expected from a young player who hardly even played in college due to injury. He has shot it well from behind the arc but inside is where he has seen some issues. He plays a lot with Sexton so racking up assists is also a little tougher when he isn’t the primary ball handler. He comes in at a relatively cheap price tonight vs a Nets defense that ranks 27th vs opposing guards this season. Garland is a bit of a risky pick but if his shots get going he can be really valuable in this spot.
