Top Pitchers
Jose Quintana ($9,500) vs Padres– Quintana has been a solid pitcher for the Cubs this season despite his 4.00 ERA. He struggled vs the Padres in his last start but given the current state of San Diego’s roster I think he will be able to put up a very good performance tonight on the road. They strike out a lot and are a major boom of bust squad which means if he can limit the damage he should be able to rack up the K’s and work deep into the ballgame. His price is a bit high but given the matchup I have no problem paying a bit of a premium against this strikeout prone squad.
Nathan Eovaldi ($7,300) vs Blue Jays– Eovaldi has been in the pen for most of this season and it has not worked out for him as he owns a 5.77 ERA. However, in his last two appearances he has been great going 9 IP with only 4 hits and 2 ERs allowed. Not only has he limited the damage, he has struck out 11 batters as well. Eovaldi has nasty stuff and the strikeout is a very important piece of his game. The Blue Jays are a young team so I believe the veteran Eovaldi should have the edge with the way he has been pitching, and this price is very reasonable given the upside we can get.
Top Hitters
Ronald Acuna Jr. ($5,200) vs Phillies– Acuna continues to hit near the top of a Braves lineup that features Freddie Freeman and Ozzie Ablies. This allows ample opportunity for production and runs scored for the young outfielder with so much offensive talent around him. Acuna hit a homer last night and should be looking forward to his matchup vs Jason Vargas tonight. In 10 career PAs vs the lefty Acuna is hitting .667 with a triple and a home run. The price is steep but worth it tonight in my opinion.
Jonathan Schoop ($4,100) vs Nationals– Schoop hasn’t done anything overly productive this year but he has very good power for his position and has a favorable matchup tonight vs veteran right hander Anibal Sanchez. In 14 career PAs vs the righty he is hitting .385 with 2 home runs and a double. His playing time has been a bit sporadic as of late but if he is in the lineup tonight he is worth a shot in your lineup.
Michael Brantley ($4,100) vs Athletics–Brantley had been in a cold streak but he has since awoken. In his last 4 starts Brantley has 4 R 2 HRs and has racked up 5 RBIs. He has limited at-bats vs Tanner Roark but in those 3 ABs he has 2 doubles and overall Roark has given up a good amount of hits in his recent starts. We know Brantley is an elite hitter so when it looks like he is starting to get back in a groove and is priced this low I don’t see myself being able to resist putting him in my final lineup.
Kyle Seager ($3,900) vs Reds– Seager’s average isn’t something to write home about but he has pop and a good matchup tonight. He has 2 home runs total in his last 4 games so he isn’t necessarily playing bad but you have to be worried about his low floor because he seems to be a homer or bust sort of guy. Big hits is something Seager has done vs Reds SP Trevor Bauer, four 2Bs and 1 HR in 21 career PAs while hitting a very good .400. I’m not saying there isn’t any risk but if you are willing to take it on Seager could pay off in a big way.
