Top Pitchers
Patrick Corbin ($10,500) vs Twins– We keep going with Patrick Corbin because he always comes through when we need him. In his last 32 innings Corbin owns a 1.97 ERA with 38 Ks and has held opposing batters to a .182 batting average. He struggled with command in his last outing but I see that as an outlier and Corbin will continue to get his strikeouts which is why he is really enticing at this $10,000+ price. He has struck out at least 8 batters in 5 of his last 6 starts and I don’t see that slowing down tonight vs the Twins on the road because Corbin has been elite all season long.
Julio Teheran ($8,500) vs Phillies– Teheran has been very surprising this year with a lot of people expecting him to decline he put together a very good year as he currently owns a 3.31 ERA. In his last 4 starts he has only allowed a total of 3 ERs and struck out 8+ batters in 2 of those starts. He comes in at a fair $8,500 price tag and given the lack of hits he has allowed I feel like he will continue to trend in the right direction. The Phillies are in the wild card chase and I expect the Braves to want to keep their division foe out and play their best tonight on the road.
Top Hitters
Josh Donaldson ($5,200) vs Phillies– Donaldson has been one of the best free agent pickups of this past offseason that a lot of people don’t talk about. He has 37 home runs on the season and has 5 of them in his last 11 games, and has flashed some of the greatness he showed a couple of years ago. He has seen tonight’s Phillies SP, Drew Smyly, very well over the course of his career hitting .474 with 3 HRs and 3 2Bs across 21 career PAs. He is very pricey tonight but the upside is there and for that he will be on my roster tonight.
Shin-Soo Choo ($4,300) vs Rays–Choo just continues to be one of the highest floor daily fantasy players. He has scored a run in 5 straight games and he has reached base at least once in 9 of his last 10 games. His price is respectable for what he brings to the table and he will be up against Rays rookie Brendan McKay who has been really up and down so no telling what we could see there. Given the high floor I am willing to roster Choo and see what happens in this game which will likely feature a lot of bullpen work from the Rays.
Marcus Semien ($4,100) vs Astros– Athletics SS Marcus Semien has been swinging a hot bat as he comes into tonight’s game with 9 hits 6 R 2 HRs 6 RBIs and 2 SBs in his last 5 games. He has been doing it all and his price has even gone down a little bit given his matchup vs Justin Verlander. Semien has been able to hold his own vs the ace righty for the Astros hitting .286 vs him with a double, triple, and home run in 28 career PAs. Knowing how well he is hitting it I am willing to risk it vs Verlander on the road tonight in Houston.
Yan Gomes ($3,100) vs Twins– If you look at Yan Gomes stats it doesn’t look like he has anything to offer but when we are digging deep for a DFS catcher there are some things to like. Gomes has 2 HRs in his last 3 games and has seen the ball well vs tonight’s Twins SP Kyle Gibson. He is hitting an excellent .433 with two doubles and two home runs across 32 career PAs. If you are willing to take a flyer on a very volatile position like catcher I think Gomes is a guy you need to look at.
