DraftKings MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 9/19/19

Top Pitchers

Kyle Hendricks ($9,800) vs CardinalsHendricks has continued to pitch like we have seen over the years. He won’t strike out many batters but he will limit the damage and be a very high floor option in DFS. Coming into tonight’s game he has allowed 1 ER less in 5 of his last 6 starts for the Cubs. In his last start vs St. Louis he was superb striking out 7 batters and not allowing a run over 7 innings. Hendricks is one of the most consistent pitchers in the big leagues and in this small slate with not a lot of reliable pitching I think you need a guy like Hendricks.

Masahiro Tanaka ($7,500) vs AngelsThe opposite of consistent has been Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka, he has allowed 10 ERs in his last 3 starts coming into tonight’s game. However I like him going up against an Angels team that will be without its star Mike Trout. Without him in the lineup I think Tanaka has a chance to put together some good innings. We aren’t asking for a shutout from him tonight at this price but there is some decent upside at this price. The pitching is really lacking and I don’t have faith in anybody that is cheaper than Tanaka in tonight’s slate so I’m letting it ride with him tonight.

Top Hitters

Jonathan Villar ($4,800) vs Blue JaysVillar has been one of the best DFS infielders over the last month or two for the Orioles. Coming into tonight’s game he has a 6 game hit streak with 8 R 2 HRs 4 RBIs and 4 SBs. Villar has shown a combination of speed and power in the 2ndhalf of the season which makes him very valuable for daily fantasy players. He will be going up against Blue Jays SP Anthony Kay who has only pitched 2 times this year and allowed 5 ER and 7 hits in 4.1 innings in his last appearance so I think Villar will be able to take advantage of the matchup tonight.

Aaron Judge ($4,500) vs AngelsJudge has missed a lot of time this year but he is starting to get it going with the bat and the power. He has 9 runs scored 3 HRs and 5 RBIs in his last 7 games and has a favorable matchup tonight vs Angels SP Andrew Heaney. Heaney has allowed 5 HRs across his last 3 starts and Judge is the exact guy who can pounce on the opportunity. Given Heaney’s recent performances and Judge’s play trending up I think this is a spot Judge can give us some value.

Alex Gordon ($3,900) vs TwinsGordon comes into tonight’s game with 5 hits in his last 4 games with 2 RBIs and has played some solid baseball overall over the past week or two. I like him tonight because of his large amount of history vs Twins SP Kyle Gibson. In 60 career PAs vs Gibson he is hitting .296 vs the righty with two doubles and two home runs. It isn’t crazy good but it is solid success for a guy who is priced below $4,000 in a slate that is only 5 games. Gibson has also struggled lately giving up no less than 4 ER in his last 4 starts.

Ryan O’Hearn ($3,200) vs TwinsRoyals 1B Ryan O’Hearn is an ultimate boom or bust guy with his sub .190 batting average on the season. The only reason I am considering him as a play is because he is 5/6 with two doubles in his career vs Kyle Gibson. O’Hearn is known as a power guy but he struggles making contact but that hasn’t seemed like an issue vs Kyle Gibson. Like I said with Alex Gordon, Kyle Gibson has really been having some issues so if there was ever a time to roster Ryan O’Hearn it may be worth it tonight.
