Top Pitchers
Jacob deGrom ($11,200) vs Diamondbacks– deGrom hasn’t been his best over his last couple starts but he has still been going deep into games, 7 IP in 8 of his last 9 starts this season. Tonight he will be going up against the Dbacks who just had their 5 game win streak snapped yesterday afternoon. deGrom is an elite pitcher, which is why his price is so high, but I believe he will be able to bounce back tonight and given his K numbers he has the highest floor and highest ceiling of any pitcher in tonight’s slate.
Trevor Williams ($6,300) vs Giants– Trevor Williams has had a tumultuous season but he has started to string a couple good starts together. Coming into tonight’s game Williams owns a 2.37 ERA in his last 19 innings with 15 Ks and 2 BBs. He doesn’t have overpowering stuff but he can get the job done and has proven it in past seasons and at times this year. He is dirt cheap tonight vs a Giants team that is pretty much out at this point. Given the circumstances and the way Williams has pitched I’m willing to take a flyer here on the veteran right hander.
Top Hitters
J.D. Martinez ($4,700) vs Yankees– Martinez has been really solid this year for a Red Sox team that has been underperforming in terms of wins and losses. They will have a big matchup tonight vs the Yankees and Martinez will be going up against a familiar face in Yankees SP James Paxton. In 16 career PAs vs the lefty he is hitting .467 with one double, one triple, and two home runs. Paxton has been excellent but I think Martinez is a good enough hitter to get to him tonight.
Michael Brantley ($4,200) vs Athletics– Brantley went into a little slump this past week but in the last 3 games he has rebounded with 3 hits 1 HR and 4 RBIs. He is one of the best average hitters in the majors and being in the middle of the Astros lineup allows him to produce a very good amount of runs. Tonight I like him because he will be facing off vs A’s SP Mike Fiers who Brantley is hitting .387 off of with 2 doubles and a homer in 31 career PAs. We are getting a very fair price tonight for the lefty bat so I am going to take him here.
Jean Segura ($4,000) vs Braves– Segura has been swinging a very good bat with 6 hits in the last 3 games. He is a proven hitter and when he is in a groove like he is now, a hit in 8 of his last 9 starts, it is hard to keep him out of the lineup. Due to his lack of production he is only priced at $4,000 but if he hits well enough he can still be a valuable piece in your lineup. He will be up against Braves SP Mike Foltynewicz who has struggled at times this year so if there is a chance to extend his streak good play it’s tonight.
Eric Hosmer ($3,900) vs Cubs– With Machado in front of him in the Padres lineup 1B Eric Hosmer has had some run producing opportunities with 92 on the season. He won’t hit for that much power but he has been one of the best hitters with RISP and when you can get production at a sub $4,000 price that is always a plus. He has a home run off tonight’s Cubs SP Kyle Hendricks and is 3/10 in his career vs the veteran righty. Hosmer isn’t the most consistent but if you want to go out and get a big pitcher and save money elsewhere take a look at Hosmer tonight.
