Lineup Building Analysis

Week 1 pricing tends to always be a lenient early in the season with the combination of news breaking since salaries were released, and the algorithms still adjusting to the 2019 season. This means lineups can be a bit chalky and also you will be able to make some great looking big name lineups. In cash games, which have been rather chalky the last few years, you will have to make a zag somewhere. In tournaments we can eye some single digit dart throws but also identify the bad chalk. Looking at quarterback this week, you have a few special rushing quarterbacks with big upside. Patrick Mahomes is a bit pricey, and not a must play this week, but the Chiefs are going to be a team to target regardless of matchup. However with several quarterbacks priced in the mid range, I would rather go there.

Cheap and mid-range running backs will be very popular this week. Dalvin Cook and Kerryon Johnson have strong return value ahead of them in plus spots this week. Because they are around the $6,000 mark, they will be noticeable value. In cash games I would recommend exposure, as you could be left trailing without one of them. Chris Carson should be lesser owned, but is still cash game viable. I wouldn’t expect as high of ownership around him. Leonard Fournette is another GPP pivot off those two. The Chargers are a team to build around despite the offensive line issues, and this is going to cause shorter routes with premier pass-catchers. We already have Austin Ekeler getting solid run this week, and his floor is great on DK. Keenan Allen and Hunter Henry are also primed for big weeks. Henry’s price is laughably low on DraftKings, and will be popular in all formats.

In tournaments I would recommend leaving a little money on the table as there will be some popular lineup builds. Any of the top three defenses listed in the cheat sheet are in play this week no matter the format, and I expect ownership to be fairly spread out with them. If you are making a true pivot, Seattle and Detroit should have low ownership. Paying up for a defense is no issue this week given all the value, and both Philly and Baltimore are in standout spots.

Stacking Analysis

As mentioned above, the Chargers are a strong PPR stack against the Colts. Ekeler, Austin, and Henry are in a good spot to rack up receptions, and they also have an implied total over 25. This group also isn’t badly priced. The Eagles have a ton of options, which makes it tough to stack sometimes given that some lesser names find the end zone. I would still go with the big names here, with Carson Wentz, Alshon Jeffrey, Zach Ertz, and DeSean Jackson. They get a Washington defense that will have some moments this season, but are not a bad matchup for a strong defense. They shouldn’t be crazy popular, as the Rams, Bucs, and 49ers will carry some ownership in more standout spots to the average player.

The Buccaneers will draw plenty of ownership with Bruce Arians at the help, but also a matchup against the 49ers at home. There is plenty of upside in this spot, but also a ton of ownership will follow. You will have to be on the contrarian side elsewhere with this stack, because the popular value plays will be tied into this group. The Rams passing game should fall second in line with the opposite side of that game being in play too. A shootout in Carolina could follow. These would be the five top options to stack this week, although Dallas is going to be intriguing as well depending on the Ezekiel Elliot news. Tony Pollard will be crazy owned in all formats if Elliot sits, but I like stacking the Cowboys passing attack too.
