DraftKings NFL Week 2 GPP Tournament Picks: Daily Fantasy Advice & Strategy
Contents
If you are playing on DraftKings, there are a few scoring notes to make sure you know. The PPR scoring is definitely the one to be aware of. This expands the player pool a bit where you can find those receiving backs and possession wide receivers. There are also scoring bonuses for yardage marks for passing, rushing, and receiving yards. Interceptions are just -1, so it puts those high risk quarterbacks more in play where an interception would usually cost half as much as a touchdown. With that, we are ready find some Week 2 contrarian options.
Quarterback
Jared Goff – $5,900
GPP Projection: 23.9
Just a shade below $6,000, Jared Goff is one of my favorite plays in all formats this week. He thrived at home last season, averaging 342 yards a game, and a 7.3% touchdown rate. There was also a regular season game where he had 391 yards and three scores against this New Orleans defense. Not much surprise as the secondary struggled last season, and also in Week 1. This is a shootout that will be on the main slate and provide a ton of potential for tournament upside. Goff also has plenty of stacking partners.
Running Backs
Alvin Kamara – $8,200
GPP Projection: 24.1
Ownership aside, Alvin Kamara is just solely an upside play to get exposure to. After watching an all-purpose back destroy them last week, they will see Alvin Kamara this week. The Rams were a bottom eight defense against the run last season, ranking 27th. Kamara had 20 touches and produced over 100 all-purpose yards. He just failed to find the end zone. The workload is there, and on a full PPR site like DraftKings, you can bank on 6-7 points off receptions alone. I will be working Kamara into most tournament lineups.
Duke Johnson – $5,000
GPP Projection: 17.3
Now that we have tempered our expectations a bit, Duke Johnson is a guy who is going to get 15 touches a game and work well in the passing game. He was efficient on the ground, rushing for 57 yards on nine carries. He also had five targets in the passing game, catching four of them for 33 yards. Johnson’s priced dropped $1,000 from last week, and his ownership should be rather low. Jacksonville’s stout defense will also help with that. Unfortunately the Jags run into another high powered offense that they will likely have trouble slowing them down.
Wide Receivers
James Washington – $3,600
GPP Projection: 10.5
James Washington only played 52% of the snaps in Week 1, behind Ryan Siwtzer and Donte Moncrief. After Moncrief’s horrendous showing, I wonder if we see that drop off. Regardless of Washington’s snaps, he was still targeted six times, but caught two of them for 51 yards. However, Washington ranked third in the league in air yards in Week 1, presenting a down the field threat when he was out there. Washington is the definition of a dart throw against a Seattle defense that got toasted by the Bengals passing attack.
Adam Thielen – $7,100
GPP Projection: 19.8
The Vikings threw the ball ten times last week. Ten times. TEN TIMES. Granted this team was up big early, and the Falcons showed no signs of getting back into it, it still baffles me a bit. This shall be a closer game, and Adam Thielen will be overlooked. The Packers allowed the fourth most fantasy points per game to wideouts last season. Week 1 against an inept Bears passing attack isn’t showing much either. In the last five matchups against the Packers, Thielen has posted 29.5, 34.1, 4.4, 18.6, and 47.6 DK point games.
Tight End
Mark Andrews – $3,800
GPP Projection: 14.1
The offseason hype was there for Mark Andrews, and he delivered a big game against Miami. He had 31% of the targets in Baltimore, and we know he will be involved in the passing game when on the field. Andrews saw eight targets, catching all eight of them for 108 yards. The price tag below $4,000 is far too low for his production. They are also in a matchup where Arizona just allowed over 100 yards and a score to TJ Hockenson.
Defense
Buffalo Bills – $3,400
GPP Projection: 10.4
If you want to get away from the chalk of Chicago and New England, Buffalo is the way to go. This is an extremely good secondary and also have been strong against opposing tight ends. While they will need to take away Saquon Barkley, this defense is in better shape against the run compared to last season. With a lack of weapons and Eli Manning under center, the Bills defense is a nice pivot away from the top names.
